So say you had a monster display to use for monitoring your Windows web/SQL/file servers. What would you display to keep an eye on your servers?
I'm already showing Spotlight for Windows and the HTML report page of PA Server Monitor, and I'm using some VBScript to alt-tab between windows. What else should I throw in the mix? 4/20/2009 4:32:47 PM |

We have 3 tvs outside our datacenter that show: Spotlight for SQL HTML report page for our server monitor app weather channel

I couldn;t tell you how much spotlight for sql costs us. But we have spotlight for windows as well. As to ease of use I think it was just point at database and fire.
we use Manage EngineĀ© Applications Manager. We use it mostly for alerting on system stats. it works on linux + windows + snmp. It also can do custom scripting. Its not the best product in the world and we used to have alot of problems with false positives until we got it tweaked right. AFAIK its pretty cheap compared to what we used to use (netiq appmanager).
I just use the stuff, my boss buys it.

a highly customized nagios-based solution
you can make it do whatever you want
i'm currently rewriting our stuff to take temperature readings from the on-board OOM controllers for each server, average the temps for each rack and present a "hot zone map" of all of our datacenters on one of our large screens with the ability to zoom in to each individual server's temperature
if you take the time to learn how nagios works, you can really do anything.
even the stock stuff looks pretty nice: http://www.nagios.org/about/screenshots.php] 4/20/2009 5:10:18 PM |

^Do you have Nagios set up as an SNMP trap? I am looking for a good monitoring package that can act as an SNMP trap for Windows Servers. I've seen some plugins to make Nagios do this but I was just wondering how difficult it was. 4/24/2009 9:45:29 AM |

I, too, use this. Excellent value for the $$$ once you are done tweaking.4/24/2009 1:49:55 PM |
