the type that look like a wrist-watch, I am considering purchasing one soon. I have seen some at Wal-Mart, but I'm a bit resistive about spending a decent amount of money on one and it not work well. I'm looking for something in the sub-$100 range, if that is even possible for a decent one

I have a Polar one. Never used it, but it was only $1.99 at the thrift store and it was brand new in the box.
I think I'm going to try it now though. Thx Hurley. 4/20/2009 10:45:04 PM |

Just go with a polar. You can get the cheaper Garmin HRM for about $80 so you can track distance, speed, etc. but just stick with something basic until you know you are going to use it faithfully. Do not get one that measures your heart rate through the wrist watch only, always get one that utilizes a chest strap. 4/21/2009 12:50:34 AM |

I bought the basic Polar, I'm very happy with it.
but the salesman mentioned something about needing a fancier model if you run with other people to avoid crosstalk between the wrong watch and strap. 4/21/2009 1:14:03 AM |

i use an omron hc-1000 i bought from amazon.com for $35 shipped....it doesnt do all the fancy tracking, just a simple timer, clock, monitor, & alarm
i love it, helps pass the time and it's pretty fun to watch your body recover/go to work 4/21/2009 5:37:51 AM |
