jim gaffigan beyond the pale and one of brian regan's earlier stand-ups are two i always keep handy. Pretty good comedy that most people can enjoy/relate to. I honestly don't listen to/ watch a lot of stand up. 4/21/2009 9:02:09 AM |

second Hedberg
Eddie Izzard, even though he doesn't have much new stuff.
Jim Gaffigan is marginally funny / more than marginally annoying. 4/21/2009 9:46:55 AM |

i hesitate to suggest david cross but if you like him in other stuff, his standup comedy is good (if a little too political for some folks)
second eddie izzard and mitch hedberg

Hedberg is good for a solo drive, but if you have other people then its easy for people to stop paying attention and just start talking over it.
I'd recommend Daniel Tosh and Gaffigan, their material is pretty animated. Gabriel Iglesias is hilarious too

Aside from all the people said so far (esp Corss, Hicks, and Oswalt), I would also probably have to throw in Bill Cosby for old time's sake.
If I was driving through Georgia or Alabama, I'd borrow my dad's old Lewis Grizzard tapes for old time's sake. He's homophobic by today's tastes, but his stories still hold up for the most part, esp the one about tourist traps on I-95.
