I understand it, but don't get why I should care that...

rofl, I get that it is a narcissistic outlet for everyone who thinks people care about the boring shit they do from minute to minute. Why do you think celebrities are on this shit like white on rice? Because they are the biggest attention whores out there.4/21/2009 2:13:40 PM |

^ hmmm....celebrities aren't shit on Twitter unless people like you and I follow them....
Which I don't.
In fact, I work in the email marketing world, where social media, SEO, PPC and everything I do has been impacted by the rise of Twitter. I have won deals b/c of relationships I have created via twitter.
It's a powerful tool if used properly.
Is everything I tweet insightful? Of course not.
I'll give you my name on Twitter via message. If you want to see how I use it (from a business perspective) hit me up. 4/21/2009 2:18:48 PM |

matter of fact, at my company i am the marketing manager & director and i am currently setting up a Twitter account and a Business Facebook page.
Twitter will def. help update our independents around the country 4/21/2009 2:21:24 PM |

Panthro can you PM it to me? I was wondering about using it from the same perspective you do... Mainly because my company releases new products every couple of days and a quick blast via Twitter would be helpful, even if I had no followers. I've seen my company name show up on Google via tweets, but I thought I just read something stating Google isn't going to index status updates anymore.

If the only updates you're getting on Twitter are about taking a nap or eating lunch, the problem isn't Twitter, it's your lame ass friends.
(Disclaimer: I don't use Twitter) 4/21/2009 2:41:47 PM |

I don't use twitter, but I have several (as you call them) lameass friends who are constantly tweeting--even the vocabulary for this fad is gay as hell-- about banal shit that noone cares about. 4/21/2009 2:48:22 PM |

Well, like I said, it's your friends you should be directing this anger towards, not the service.

it can actually be useful. just because some people only post things like "napping, lunch dinner" doesn't mean everyone does that.
some people have their panties in a wad in this thread. lulz

I assume Annabelle Vaughn is the one doing the twitter updates. I wouldn't expect groundbreaking information, but it was nice when she was posting updates on the alumni that were present for the spring game, signees, stats from the scrimmages, etc. 4/21/2009 3:40:44 PM |

your twitter might look like that if the people you follow are all 15 year olds.

I guess I didn't understand how that applied to this thread or how people on this site utilize twitter. As I've said before, most people I know who use twitter are not using it like a facebook status or something.
obviously not everyone is going to like everything but I think Ernie said it best.

This is how I would summarize it. (not all my own words)
It's a networking tool, not a marketing tool. Twitter is content, Facebook is content, like web pages or message boards. Content can be searched for and found, pulling visitors to your web site.
Not really anything more than that. Twitter is not worth any particular scrutiny or investment, it simply is part of the system. These content sources come and go, and their contribution to the system can be measured in terms of visits, purchases, downloads, etc. - just like any other content.
It is interesting to note that the "easier" it gets to create web content - first message boards, then web sites, then blogs, then "environments" like Facebook, then Twitter - the lower the quality of the content overall.
Meaning, the quality of the traffic created by each new source is lower than the previous one (quality from an economic value-added perspective).
Therefore, one should invest Marketing resources accordingly. 4/21/2009 4:26:58 PM |
