Have a '00 Mercury Cougar and the Advanced Auto print out says it's the alternator.

Battery was "dead" when we took it to the shop two days ago, but was under warrenty so was replaced and is brand new.

Car randomly turned off while riding down the road. then Clicked on start but wouldnt fire.

Anyone recommend a mechanic locally that wont take me for a ride?

thanks in advance.

(searched for mechanic threads :x they were all many months old!)

Personally, I use Last Chance Garage. They're not "cheap" in the sense that you can go there and get a deal, but they seem like good people and I trust them. I guess that's important.

Though, an alternator is pretty easy (from my experience). If you call around and get a quote, I or someone else might be able to do it for you for a better rate.

actually it is very simple, if you pop the tie rod end out of the knuckle, there is plenty of room for it to drop right out the bottom, nothing else to take loose other than the belt and wiring connectors to it

no, i can tell you for a fact it can be done with a couple of combination wrenches in about a half hour, i changed one out on an '01 on an off ramp about a year ago, just because everything is difficult for you, doesn't mean that it is for people with fully functional brains

you just implied a contradiction, and now are backpedaling because you got called out, next you are gonna try to convince him putting gas in the car is hard because you have to open the fuel door, and take the cap off

taking shit loose/off has nothing to do with being hard.

a tune up on 4cyl ranger is easy, you still have to take 8 plugs and wires off.
