1 ripe medium avocado (6–8 ounces)

1 cup ice (8 ice cubes)

1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk

1/4 to 1/2 cup milk

Scoop the avocado flesh into a blender. Add the remaining ingredients, starting out with the least amount of milk and puree until completely smooth. Taste and add additional milk, depending on the avocado type and if a thinner consistency is desired.

Though usually I use yogurt and honey instead of the condensed milk.

Avocado shakes are f'ing awesome.

There is a place that I go to where they have the best avocado shake in the world. This is how they serve it:

In a tall glass they put the blended avocado/milk, and swirl honey into the glass intermittently while filling up with the avocado/milk. That gives an amazing effect when seen from the side--ribbons of honey throughout. The blended avocado/milk is itself not sweetened. They top it with some real dairy cream, but not the commercial kind, rather a home made one which is heavenly. And finally they top that with some blanched almonds and some more honey.

I always get it as a drink when I go there, but it is a meal/dessert unto itself!

i thought this as well until i was forced to try one

it's one of the strangest (yet satisfying) things you'll ever taste... but it's good as hell.

10/10 would drink again.

A medium sized avocado has up to 30 grams of fat. That is why they taste sooooo good

But it has fiber, monounsaturated fats, folic acid, etc. Eating one avocado in a day is a lot better for you than a Quarter Pounder

PLEASE DON'T TALK OUT OF YOUR ASS.

I WILL CRUCIFY ANYBODY WHO SPREADS MISINFORMATION ABOUT NUTRITION

Avocados are SUPER healthy.

FAT != BAD

It depends on the type of fat.

If you ate a completely fat-free diet, you will DIE.

Some fats will give you heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.

Other fats will drastically reduce the risk of those and other diseases.

Fat in avocados is the same as in olives (i.e., olive oil) and nuts, which has been shown to ward nearly every lifestyle disease and even help in dropping pounds. Another fat that does all that and will also make you a genius is omega-3 fat found in fish and algae. You obviously didn't get enough of it when you were little.

Please know what you are saying before you say it.

Thank you for listening.

sure it has beneficial fat, but a proper serving size is like 1/4 of an avocado, not the whole thing. plus, avocado is usually consumed in the SAD by pairing it with other foods high in fat, like fried tortilla chips and hamburgers, frequently with other fatty toppings like bacon. dietetically it should be considered an oil, not a fruit. eating 2-3 apples a day to satisfy your fruit requirement has no negative effects, while eating 2-3 avocados a day might start to negate all the positive health benefits of including a small amount in your diet.

"GREEN JAY: Sure, water is needed for life,

but if you drink too much it can kill you."

That's basically what you are saying, and that should be enough of a response to you. But, what the hell, I am gonna bite and respond to your actual equally stupid post, with each numbered point below a response to each successive sentence:

Quote :
"sure it has beneficial fat, but a proper serving size is like 1/4 of an avocado, not the whole thing. plus, avocado is usually consumed in the SAD by pairing it with other foods high in fat, like fried tortilla chips and hamburgers, frequently with other fatty toppings like bacon. dietetically it should be considered an oil, not a fruit. eating 2-3 apples a day to satisfy your fruit requirement has no negative effects, while eating 2-3 avocados a day might start to negate all the positive health benefits of including a small amount in your diet."

1) Eat the "proper serving serving" (more on that later) size, then. WOW.

2) Who the fuck is talking about or cares about the SAD. If I tell you something is healthy, it follows that I want you to eat other healthy things as well and follow a healthy diet. DUH.

3) Biologically, it is a fruit. Nutritionally, yes, it is a fruit AND a good fat. So what's your point?

4) And here is the most important thing. There is an island in Greece that I forget the name of, where people drink a glass of olive oil at breakfast. Yes, you heard that right. And they are slim, healthy, and live happy and fulfilling lives into their 80s. The key is to replace other calories in your day if you are going to eat a whole avocado ore more. As long as you do that, you can safely consume 2-3 a day. Not only will that have no harmful effect, rather, it will be quite beneficial, both health wise, and weight wise. Monunsaturated fats are not processed like saturated fats. Whereas the latter are likely to be stored as body fat, the latter are less likely to be stored, gram per gram. And if you are replacing other calories, they will be straight up burnt up, while at the same time reducing your risk of multiple lifestyle diseases.

1)+2)+3)+4) You are putting your fingers in a pie that only looks like a pie. So DON'T put your fingers in it.

Greek-style yogurt is super awesome. Only thing is it will make a dessert to be eaten by a spoon, so thin the shake down with water or some milk. And yeah, definitely add honey or maple syrup or agave nectar to sweeten the shake. Wish I could get Greek-style yogurt here

I'm guessing they drink a shot of olive oil. Drinking a glass of olive oil would be more than 1500 calories.

^ One of my father's Greek colleagues told him about that, and of course my father told me. Being into nutrition, I got really excited and didn't think to ask how big their glasses were

But now that I think about it, a shot glass makes more sense. At the same time, I can see it being a small drinking glass, around 100 ml. The body works in strange ways.

Time to google it!

I'm not a big avocado fan, but I had one sitting around from our weekly market basket (every week, a local farmer's co-op around here puts together a bag of all sorts of local, in-season produce that gets distributed to local businesses, and one of my colleagues and I split it each week). I tried making one of these this morning since there's only so much guacamole I can handle, and it was surprisingly passable for a non-fan.

This may become my preferred way of getting rid of avocados, since we tend to get at least one every week for a large part of the year. By the way, if you really like avocados, you should live in California; they're dirt cheap here, and people put them on everything (EVVVERRRRYYYYTHIIIING).
