Dancing Outlaw was entertaining because it looked like a bootleg documentary of a family that didn't realize how fucked up and inbred they appeared to the rest of the world. I think MTV is going to ruin this. Showing the Boone County sign without a beer bottle hitting it just didn't seem right.

PBS did a documentary about Jesco White back in the early 1990s called "Dancing Outlaw". I have a DVD copy of it (SPECIAL EDITION that includes "Jesco Goes To Hollywood")

In "Jesco Goes to Hollywood", you follow Jesco as he follows his dream of stardom to Hollywood and the Roseanne Show. Its not as good as Dancing Outlaw but it still has its good parts

but


The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia blows both of them out of the water. Epic documentary. This follows around the entire White family instead of just Jesco.

Sad thing is from 2005-2006 I lived an hour or so away from these folks and didn't even realize it.
Live in Prestonsburg, KY (Floyd Co) with the exwife and near the ex-inlaws.
There are some breathtakingly beautiful spots in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains but
there are also spots you don't go into after dark. And drug dealing is one of the few
ways to make a living anymore. I was lucky enough to get an ACS call center supervisor position
down the road in Pikeville. Other than that retail was the only other choice in that area
I don't regret living there at all and I met some amazing folks but damn I am glad to be back in
Central NC. When people start to whine about living here I tell them you don't know how good you have it here.
