Since nobody reads the last post:

Fun fact for you. The guy that owns that gas station/building, Lop Sang, also owns the Laser Carwash behind it. He has like 20 of them throughout the Triad, and has made a fortune on them."

I'll also say Burger Spot is pretty good. My wife likes their home made veggie burgers. When it was Chef Jack's the wife and I would go there too. They had the best cuban I've ever had and also SC style BBQ. I was sad when they closed up.

Emma Keys is also great!! I like Porterhouse too and on Mondays their burgers are $5. Is Fincastle's still open. They always had a decent burger for being downtown.

I think tomorrow I'll check out the cable box and see what I will need to get into it.

Went to Fincastles about a month ago. Still open, still good. I am partial to their hotdogs though.

Good deal. I think the wife and I will hang out downtown next weekend and goof off a bit. We wanted to check out the Greenway at Fisher Park Apartments while we're down that way

Went to Kickback Jack's last night to watch the Cowboys game. GOTDAMN they have some nice talent working there. I definitely need to go there more often.

I like what they've done with it. Food's decent, TVs are great, and if it's tournament time in Greensboro, you'll see half a basketball team on any given night. It's a pretty good crowd.

The guys I share office space with go there for lunch at least once a week. I think I may need to start joining them. That's the first time I have been there since it was Rock-Ola

Wasn't it something else after Rock-Ola but before Kickback Jack's? I seem to remember it being something else, but I rarely get over to that side of town so I can't be certain.

I don't remember it before Rock Ola. I used to love Anton's over that way, though it had gone downhill the last time I was there. Is it still around?

Yes, it was something in between. Like a Pizzeria UNO or something (2004ish?). That spot has not had the best luck with permanency.

^^ yes, Anton's is still there. Though I haven't eaten there since high school

Anyone remember when Janus theater was over there? Now THAT'S some old school for that ass

My sister was the manager of the Terrace theater in Friendly when she was in college. Same owner as the Janus. They both closed in the early or mid 90's because the owner got in some major tax trouble.

I learned that the family that owns Fincastles also owns Emma Keys but I haven't eaten at Fincastles yet. Maybe next month before "Beetlejuice" or "Alien". I'm not sure what family members own which place but it's kinda neat to know that.

And I finally just remembered that I had a great burger at McCoul's. I've been trying to figure out what restaurant I had eaten at for the first time in the last month.

The owner of the Janus & Terrace also started the Carousel and passed away a few years ago, if I remember the webpage correctly.

Fincastles is pretty much a Greensboro landmark, so you definitely need to eat there. I haven't been there in years though. Does the singing waiter still work there?

I remember both the Janus and Terrace theatres. The Terrace used be in Friendly before Friendly wouldn't let them renew their lease or raised it. I had many a fun time in that parking lot. The Janus was fun with the different couches and types of movies you could see.

Rock-ola had some of the best cheese fries <--fattie comment
Though I don't think Kickacks was anything else before Rock-ola. I may be mistaken, but I thought they shut down Rock-ola and a few months later when I went to Ed McKay's they were tearing the front of the building off and pouring concrete through new hole in the wall they made.

I didn't think anyone went to Anton's after high school.

Also I'm pretty sure I can't get into my cable box. Looks like instead of the screwdriver thing I need an actual key to get in there. It's locked on both sides.

The reason I asked about Fincastles is because a couple of years ago the husband and wife were going through a divorce. I think he owned part of the restaurant and she owned part of the building and she was pissed about things.

I think you're thinking of the place next the the Carousel movie theater, not the Kickback Jacks place. It's been at least a 1/2 dozen different places over the years. Uno's, Chi-Chi's, some crab shack...nothing seems to work for that place which is strange with it being right next to a movie theater. Last time I was over there is was just empty.

^^I know which place you're thinking of (I actually liked the Crab Shack place), but for some reason, I was thinking something similar had gone into Rockola too. Not sure, but a quick google search isn't coming up with anything either.

Yeah, that place over by Carousel is definitely cursed. Other than Chi Chi's, I don't think that any restaurant has lasted more than a year there. Which is odd, considering they are right next to a movie theater. You'd think they could do some really good "Dinner and a Movie" business on the weekends.

Chi-Chi's wasn't the same building as UNO and the Crab Shack.

I barely remember what Chi-Chi's was like on the inside, but I know we went there often when I was a kid.

Speaking of Mexican restaurants Grwensboro used to have, does anyone remember Tijuana Fats downtown?

^^ Different building, but I'm pretty sure it was the same location.

I fucking loved chi-chis as a kid too.

I still like going to the Carousel from time to time when I'm back in G'boro. The right wing with the bar and the smaller theathers are pretty awesome.

My first job when I turned 16 was at Brassfield Cinema. Back then it was the nicest theater in Greensboro until all the stadium seating theaters started opening up. I am actually surprised it is still open.

Page/Grimsley game tonight. When I was in High School it was pretty much the biggest event of the year, even for those that didn't attend either school.

Also, Dixie Classic Fair starts today. It's by far the best local fair imo.

http://www.news-record.com/content/2012/10/04/article/got_a_troll_problem_consult_an_expert

Quote :
"There’s no doubt that Greensboro Mayor Robbie Perkins supports a proposed downtown performing arts center. And on Thursday morning, he gave a pep talk to the community task force researching the idea at the request of Greensboro City Council.

At a recent mayors’ conference, mayors from several cities said that Greensboro should pursue the performing arts center. The mayor of Hartford, Ct. told him that Hartford is creating economic development and jobs through the arts, Perkins said.

“This is much more than just something that we may want to have,” Perkins said. “It’s something that we have got to do for the future of our city.”

He urged the task force to keep working despite some public opposition.

He referred to a recent News & Record column by Susan Ladd, which, although it didn’t refer to the performing arts center, said in part: “There are people who build up, and there are people who tear down… Tear-it-downers — especially on the Internet — are often called trolls.”

“All the folks, I don’t call them naysayers, I will call them trolls,” Perkins told the task force, prompting a burst of laughter. “They are not naysayers any more. They are trolls.”"

Finally had my first doughnut from Donut World. It was great & probably even better if it was bought before 10:30am.

Any good suggestions for Christmas lights besides the streets off Friendly & the neighborhood off of Fleming Rd.?

^ Tanglewood Festival of Lights is the best in the area, but it's a good 30 minute drive from Greensboro.

Plus it's $15 per car, I believe. So if you go, take a group

I didn't go last year, but I'm doing a carriage ride with the GF through there tomorrow night, so I will let you know how it is.

There used to be an awesome one in New Irving Park (Willoughby). Some young guy sold his dot.com business for $Millions and bought a house in there. He put up a few Christmas lights and the HOA told him he had to take them down because they were colored. Instead, he went all out and covered his house with colored lights. Had a big lighted sign on the roof that said "Griswolds of Irving Park". He would sit in front of his house every night in a Santa costume just waving at people driving bye. It was pretty epic.

There is also a house out near me (Whitsett) that does a pretty tacky job, but still cute. They have people drive through their back yard and have everything decorated. When you are done, they take donations for Cancer research.

Ridgeway Rd in Sunset Hills has those light balls hung up all over the place.

Wasn't there a house close to UNCG that had a ton of lights every year? It was this little run down house, but every year the guy would have a ton of lights out. I just can't remember where that is. Does anyone know what place I'm talking about?

It is so delicious. I really enjoyed the pot roast/ pineapple tacos and the queso dip with homemade chips. I thought the mason jar of candied bacon was a little overkill with all the pepper and kind of overpriced but my friends really liked it. Pretty good bar, too. Good atmosphere but really busy at prime times. It's worth checking out.

Dear News & Record website.

I am not sure who you have in charge of your website upgrade, but wow. You somehow broke all the links to your previous stories and then deleted the database that stored the actual stories. You updated your comment section and somehow forgot to install come sort of an anti-spam test such as CAPTCHA.

Even now you have issues updating your site. Next time you post a new article, post the article first before you create the link on the front page. I'm not sure what the point is to post a headline, create the link to the main story and not post the actual article for an hour. While we are talking about posting articles you may want to check out the formatting of the article before posting it. Several times I've seen strange gaps and my favorite has been the "Continue Reading" link you have in the middle of the article. When clicked on it's a crap shoot on where in the article it will take you. Back to the top, at the end, a random sentence, and finally where it is supposed to.

Hopefully you have get some money back from whomever you hired to do this or if it was done in-house you may want to have HR look over their hiring practices.

Thank you,
jimmypop
