Marvel Studios has chosen its god of Thunder: Australian thesp Chris Hemsworth is in final negotiations to play Thor in the comicbook company's bigscreen adaptation of the character.
Kenneth Branagh will helm the actioner, set to bow on May 20, 2011.
A Norse god, Thor develops a protective affinity for humans after his father Odin banishes him to Earth, in order to teach him a lesson in humility. From then on, he's often seen wielding his massive hammer and fighting alongside the Avengers (comprised of Iron Man, the Hulk and Captain America).
Hemsworth, who stars in MGM's upcoming "Cabin in the Woods," was also just cast in that studio's remake of "Red Dawn" as Jed Eckert, the role originally played by Patrick Swayze in 1984. Hemsworth was most recently seen in Paramount's "Star Trek" playing Capt. Kirk's father.

interested to see this
mostly because I know nothing about Thor other than his basic storyline so I don't already have an idea of how it should look and what they better do or not do like I did with X-Men and Wolverine
plus, I think it has potential to be pretty badass 5/18/2009 4:13:00 PM |

should be interesting. the most recent hulk and iron man( best to date imho) have been a awesome bc they are more grounded in reality. it's tough to do a character like thor with a sense of realism since he's a god. i always thought it would be cool to just introduce him in the avengers movie. and have him be a regular dude who runs a hardware store and maybe enjoys sailing. then near the end when the avengers need him have him call his hammer out of a display case and transform into thor. 5/18/2009 6:22:34 PM |

I'd like it to be like Ultimate Thor, where he's half crazy and nobody knows whether his power comes from being a God, some other mutation, or technology.
Also the beard looks much cooler than babyface Thor from regular marvel.

Quote : | "I've learned that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and Thor director Kenneth Branagh have cast their Loki, the nemesis to the lead in Thor set for release on May 20, 2011. He's Tom Hiddleston, unknown to American audiences but an award-winning British actor and Royal Academy Of Dramatic Arts (RADA) graduate. He played Winston Churchill's son in HBO's The Gathering Storm, but, more to the point, note that Hiddleston starred in Ivanov opposite Sir Kenneth on the London stage and also starred with him in the BBC miniseries Wallander. Marvel Studios won't confirm my news, but Hiddleston had been considered as a possible Thor." |
About the loki pick and it would be real bad ass for them to focus him as Ultimate Thor but it wont happen 5/19/2009 1:29:07 PM |

I don't care what was in the comic, but any Thor should have a beard of some kind. He's fucking Norse, those people are born with full beards. 5/19/2009 1:35:50 PM |

thinking about it in retrospect, I'm kinda surprised Josh Hollaway (Sawyer on "Lost") didn't come up as a candidate. Doesn't sound like they're going for a bodybuilder anyway. 5/20/2009 11:18:55 AM |

They should have gone with Vincent D'Onofrio
But yea, Alexander Skarsgard looks more the part. Kirk Sr. is much to boyish looking for my tastes. But I guess he has a year or so to bulk a bit and maybe age a bit. 5/20/2009 11:47:39 AM |

Marvel Studios announced today that Academy Award® nominated actress Natalie Portman has been cast to star as Jane Foster in the studio's highly anticipated movie "Thor."
In the early "Thor" comics, Jane Foster was a nurse who became Thor's first love. The character will be updated for the feature adaptation.
Portman will star opposite Chris Hemsworth who will play Thor and Tom Hiddleston who will play the villain Loki. Kenneth Branagh will direct the film. 7/14/2009 2:04:59 PM |

^^ Doesn't look bad, but I think the arms would look better with chain instead of the fake looking scale they have there. On the other hand, I guess you wouldn't be able to see his muscles with chain.
I like the Captain America also but I'm not sure how I feel about the shapes on his legs. 6/3/2010 10:53:50 PM |

Hank Pym is an important member of the Avengers, one of the founding members. Plus if they are going to feature Ultron in the Avengers movie, which would make the most sense as an enemy IMO, they have to have someone to make him.
Pym's supposed to be blonde though, wonder if they get the guy to change his hair color. 6/4/2010 2:28:06 AM |

Hmmmm...
The pics of Thor remind me of someone...
it's like someone's done some makeup and facial hair effects to make him look more like someone else...
who could that be...
(yeah, I know it's a real stretch and all blonde haired people with facial hair look the same, but the first thing I thought when I saw the pics above was "He's making a new young Branagh!?!?")
