The Mountaineers own a 19-10 lead in a series that dates back to 1932 but the two programs haven't met since the Pirates posted a 38-21 victory over ASU in Boone on Nov. 3, 1979.


Me being an ASU alum and a huge fan of Armanti Edwards and the spread offense, I think (and hope) ASU takes the cake.

i'm kinda rooting for ECU to win

while I like App more than ECU in general, the only football smack talk I've had to hear from ECU in the last few years was for like 2 games last year after they beat VT and WVU...then once they lost, they kind of shut up

on the other hand, App fans all across AM radio have been calling them definitively the best football team in North Carolina (some even claiming to be the best team in both the Carolinas) for years...apparently winning D2 titles means you're the best, despite losing to one of NC State's worst teams in years

I wouldn't mind ECU winning so YET ANOTHER D1-A school from North Carolina beats the Mountaineers

^^ I know plenty of ECU fans who are annoying as shit. They had to shut up last year because they had nothing left to rant about. ASU is a decent program and I was proud to see it get some recognition in the last few years.

That NC State game was when Armanti was a freshman, in fact he didn't come into that game until 2nd half. The starting QB of that game was shit. That was not the same team that went on to win the FCS Championship.

^^ Trey Elder wasn't really shit. He didn't play very well that game, and never really was as good as Richie Williams before him or Armanti has been so far, but he was the SC football player of the year, and never really even had a chance to play I don't think..

Anyways, I went to App also, and I'd love for them to win, but they really shouldn't. I always thought it could be a decent game but ECU seems to have improved over the past year or two and should probably win. 1-AA offenses are usually pretty good, and defense is usually piss poor. I'd say App scores a couple times, keeps it pretty close, loses by like 13.

my hate towards App football is STRICTLY based on the portion of their fanbase who likes to think of them as some national powerhouse who could compete in a 1-A conference because they won some 1-AA titles

I think app can definitely win this one, but ECU will and should be favored. Edwards will have to play better than he did in his last outing, which was pretty much losing the game for the team. I wouldn't mind going to ECU to watch this one, should be a heck of a game

Winning the NIT means you're probably the ~30th best basketball team in the country or so.

Winning the 1AA championship means you're probably somewhere around ~60th best football team in the country, depending on the year.


ECU has a more complete team, ASU's got some good talent at certain positions, but their defense was god awful last year, not sure how much better they will be. I give App a 25% chance to win.

I don't think winning the FCS championship means that team could take on the BCS top teams at the end of the season, but I do think that App St (who didn't even win it last year) could compete on the BCS level and have a good showing within a couple years.

I think ECU will be more athletic on both sides of the ball and just wear APP down if nothing else,




however, this has classic ECU choke/meltdown written all over it, and APP is definitely a good enough team to take advantage of a few timely turnovers or other big mistakes;

could be an interesting game
