replied to all my PMs. With everyone asking...

You can put more games on it. its got an expanded HD. copies games to the HD and then you can play off the HD. Doesnt play emulators as far as I know. Its a game renters dream, rent a game, copy it, and play it forever. Ive never played it online but its xbox so mostly its only system link or LAN play. Some online with like halo and the such

If someone wants it Ill start at 100 and take best offer. Includes system, 3 controllers, whatever games I have on it and have disks for, and Ill throw in several strategy guides i have around as well. Ill get a game list done up later tonight hopefully. will meet around campus (I live at Wolf Village).

not to be rude, but 100 for an original xbox is as high as i go....you can start at 100 and go down if you want though

[Edited on June 2, 2009 at 12:19 PM. Reason : 100 was the price of a modded regular xbox like 2-3 years ago]

I'm not desperate to offload this box so lowball offers will be ignored, but doing so would give me an excuse to take a new creative direction with a 3rd box. I can also provide any of the mods you see here, for some scratch of course.

Assuming I do offload it, it'll come with about 20 burned games, and maybe even a few extras of the buyer's choosing if the price is right.

Current Mods:
-Disc drive flashed w/ iExtreme 1.51
-Stock fans soldered to 12V power souce
-XCM Core Cooler V2 soldered to 12V power source
-Vent cut in right side of cage to increase cool aire pulled in by ^
-Case paint with several coats of Krylon Fusion and protected by clearcoat

I'm planning to:
-Add a plexiglass window to the DVD drive
-Paint the wind tunnel
-swap the LEDs around the buttons with blue ones.
-Add a blue LED bar to the left corner.
-Swap the stock fans for quieter desktop case fans that move way more air
-Add fan controller on right side of panel to make the unit viable as a dvd player again

^I did the x-clamp "fix" (read: buy 1 more month of time) and I RRoD'd again the other day. Do you think adding all of that fan/cooling nonsense would help out?

Absolutely, RROD/E74 are both caused by heat, it's really just a manner of which components gets damaged that determines how your case will fail. I've done the x-clamp mod about for roughly 10 people over the past 4 months they all got on board w/ cooling mods as well, and they're all still going strong. I've heard some horror stories about people performing the xclamp mod and getting a few more weeks of play out of the console. My theory is that X-clamp just repairs the symptoms that are caused by the root issue, poor cooling out of the box. When this box was stock, I started noticing some frame reduction after a couple of hours of play, so I knew I had an issue, I went ahead and jumped on the cooling mods and never had to bother with the xclamp, and that's been upwards of 6 months ago.

wow how much to mod mine? I got one of the newer ones with the Jasper chipset in it because of the lower power (150w) and thus lower heat, but I'm still scared of RROD because its happened in the past. last night I was playing Fallout and I am getting some low FPS while playing the Pitt. idk if its the game or my box. in any case im interested in modding my case.

The fans came in a set, they're the XCM Core Cooler V2. I ordered mine from Renchi.com , based out of China. At the time, they had the cheapest price, around $30 shipped. You should be able to get them domestically for that price now though. http://www.access-gaming.com/agstore/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=25&idcategory=4 . The installation kit is designed to draw power from the DVD drive, but avoid doing that at all costs. As better games are increasingly demanding on DVD drive, diverting power from it is a good way to brick your unit. Power the fans independently by wiring them to the 12V power source.

In the early days of 360 modding, it could only be done w/ a hardware chip. The chip was detectable by M$ and it meant an instant ban from xbox live. Eventually, software (firmware) mods came out that were undetectable by M$, but you still ran the risk of getting caught if you burned a game that wasn't patched properly. The firmware has evolved quite a bit over the years. Today, the firmware is actually designed not to boot any game that hasn't been stealth patched, that means it's totally safe to play burned games online. I haven't purchased a game in >6 months, but I still play online basically at will. The only ones that ever get caught now are the stupid asses who attempt to play games online before they even hit the stores.

Hey Fuzion didn't see you earlier, send me a list of what you want and I'll kick back a price quote.

uhhh no. it is pretty common for a group to put out a release that the DMI sector differs from the actual retail disc. unless that is patched prior to burning them with abgx360, microsoft can very easily detect that you're playing a burned game. simply having a stealth sector there doesn't really mean shit

after market cooling mods on a 360 are really not as useful as most people think they are. they are usually extremely loud and you void your warranty by installing them. they probably don't even effect temps that much of the system. lianli went beyond just fans and made a custom aluminum case for the 360 with all new fans and their review showed that it didn't improve core temperatures. if you already voided your warranty then I guess whatever floats your boat

as long as you have it ontop of something other than the floor and it has plenty of airflow it'll probably last for a while. also, that isn't your 360, fallout3 suffered from fps drops on both 360 and pc. if you find that the system just freezes right in the middle of games a lot, then yeah that is reason to worry.

^Yeah I figured that out soon enough after some research. I just held the LB+RB+X to clear the cache as it was loading the game and it seemed to work fine after that. I keep my 360 elevated in an AC room and dust it as much as possible. Guess thats all you can do and cross your fingers.

But on the previous note, I am thinking about modding my 360 to allow me to play burnt games. I already have some games downloaded and I'm in the process of getting a DL DVDRW, but I'd like to know some pros and cons and the best way about doing this. I do play online every once in awhile (which I'd use the real copies of the games), but I'd like to burn some games like Fallout 3, Mass Effect, Bioshock, etc that are single player games and theres not much need to go online. Thanks!

I've been drunk before and played SFIV/GTA/Tiger Woods a week before launch forgetting to disconnect from xblive and haven't been banned. I'm sure the achievement dates could be pulled anyway.

The Lian Li XB series got shit reviews. At any rate, despite what the study claims to have discovered, I've personally had no frame reduction since performing the cooling mods. The fans are louder than normal and the warranty is long gone, but I'm in the process of chopping up a fan controller to remedy the situation, and the warranty, well screw the warranty.

As far as burning games,

Itchy Cats (having used several newsgroup services, this is the best one hands down)
imgBurn
Memorex or Verbatim Discs

your 360 is constantly doing challenges to the disc data whether it is connected to live or not. it's simply a matter of once the profile goes onto live, it will send any data. what you described might be an okay idea if you set aside a specific profile that you would never let connect to live but it might just be a hassle. I personally have a profile set aside that I play games on that have not been verified to match retail but I want to play them right away. sometimes you get lucky and it never needed fixing but sometimes you need to reburn.

also i've always said that modding your 360 isn't worth it unless you have a free and reliable source for downloading games. I don't know if there's danger from downloading them on public trackers. I pay for newsgroup access but I also download a lot of HD movies so it makes it somewhat worth it. burn all of your games with imgburn (free and the best) and use verbatims or any other higher quality discs. I personally only use verbatims and have never had a bad burn, but whatever works for you. look at a drive identification picture and determine which drive your have so you can have an idea of what supplies you need.

Dear Newegg,

Please include 2 cold cathodes in a cold cathode 'kits'

<3,

Kyle

In other news, I've removed some of the LEDs from the fans as to reduce the glare on the television. Having lights behind opaque areas of the case make the difference between giving the case a dope ass glow and throwing a blinding glare onto the television. It still looks decent w/ a single cathode, but I've got another on the way.

The DVD window and fan controller are finished, and hopefully the wind tunnel will be dry by tomorrow/sunday.

A.) DVD Drive Window
B.) Blue Ring of Light
C.) Fan Controller
D.) Blue Cold Cathode
E.) Silver Wind Tunnel & Disc Drive

I removed some of the LEDs from the fans, as they were casting too bright of a glow on the screen, the glow from the cathodes isn't an because they're actually behind an opaque part of the case, so it's more of an ambient lighting type thing.

I'm going to add 2 more cathodes to the left and right sides of the case, and do something about concealing the wires on the right, but overall I'm very pleased with the way it's shaping up.
