Fuck them.
Called up because my usb/sd card slots keep wanting to format my stuff and my CD/DVD player is not recognizing any CD/DVD. The guy said in his thick accent "I'm sorry, but there is no way that is true"

You have to know what to say...
Customer support usually just reads from a script in front of them. Get a technical person to talk to them. Usually if you start throwing technical lingo around they'll get confused. You have to be persistent and work them over a little. I've done it plenty of times.

That's called Windows Vista.

Did you buy the correct media? I'd imagine nearly every burner in this day and age handles all media types though. Are you attempting to open burned media on a simple player that where the disc was was left 'open' when burned?
Just throwing thoughts out there.6/5/2009 10:51:03 AM |

^^^ I think he's saying that his regular data/video/music CDs are not being identified at all by the drive, as in you put in a CD and it spins up and then doesn't show it as having any contents.

Tr00! Fuck that shit as well.
Those messages are rather annoying, and you can likely change the default action so windows will just "do nothing" and stop bothering you with those messages. It'll still probably tell you to scan and fix the drive though, which is also rather annoying.

Mmm, I know him and he's usually not a liar, especially not about when his computer stuff is getting all fucked up, haha.
New CD/DVD drive should be easy to get, just enter an online ticket saying the drive will not read any CDs or DVDs and that a replacement drive is needed. They'll call you up and probably walk through one or two things. Just tell them you've already tried reinstalling the drivers, and if they say "have you tried removing and reseating the drive?" or something else along those lines just say "yes and it still doesn't work" and eventually they'll just give up and send you a replacement part with some way to ship the defective one back.
Working at the bookstore gave me plenty of experience with working around those dipshits that worked their level 1 tech support. Once somebody figured out that we could enter the tickets online it was like we had wandered out of the desert and found our salvation.6/6/2009 12:05:22 AM |

^^ Haha nice, no viruses or anything that you knew of? Sure the bookstore fix works, but you lose, like, all your shit.
That's why I have a RAID 10 array now so I don't lose my shit, haha. 6/9/2009 12:25:40 AM |

^ true enough, but seeing how i'm working on my third HDD, I haven't had much time to accumulate anything important on it. That, and it was easy to back anything i needed up. 6/9/2009 11:31:55 AM |
