A local family has been hit hard with two of their beloved pets having devastating illnesses. They have two English Bulldogs and a French Bulldog. One of the English bullies fell very ill due to a blockage from a Nylabone (don't give them to your dogs!) and the other has just recently and mysteriously lost all use of her legs. With the economy this was a hard blow for the family. The bulldog has had surgery complications but recovering slowly at home now, the other is still in critical condition at State's vet school. They really need prayers right now and donations if at all possible. You can visit their site wingrace.com for more specific information. I don't think she's gotten the update about JJ's legs up yet though.

Thank you!

Did the Military stop paying the guy or what? What does the economy have to do with them racking up $6,000 in vet bills and then asking for assistance?

If you have nothing nice to say, then you need not reply. The wife lost her job, they went from a two income to one income household and then all of this happened. At some point everyone has unforeseen troubles in their lives. You don't need to be an ass about it.

if you can't afford a vet, dump the animal or don' get one at all. if my cat fell ill and was going to be a ton in bills i'd kiss him goodbye, even though he's purring right next to me on my desk

I like the part where the title of the thread asked for prayers, but the first post asked for money.

Did they not have a vet plan? Those dogs are over $1,000 as pups and they have three.

BTW, I pray for dogs in general and like them more than people

what does the military portion have to do with anything?

not that a single person on tww would donate but you didn't even indicate how someone could

A) What does this have to do with being in the military? I think it's really low to leverage that angle. I was expecting to find out somebody's husband or son was killed/seriously injured in action or something of that nature. At the very least, that someone was about to be deployed. Then I'm hit with some animals needing surgery and what not. and more specifically, money for said surgery.

considering current events, please be a little more thoughtful when referring to the military and a family needing prayers in the same sentence.

B) This really makes health/well being, etc., when in the hands of God, a popularity contest. And that's sad. I saw an interview with a cardinal on 60 minutes many years ago. His wife had cancer. I don't recall how it came up, but he said something to the effect of: "I could have asked everyone in the church to pray for her. But I don't want to follow a God that only helps those with a lot of friends."

I do hope things work out for them. I just think there was a better way to go about this. For ex. Family needs help with vet bills - "These people recently went from 2 household incomes down to just 1. They have two dogs that need serous medical attention, and they can't afford it. Please contribute if you can, and in any way you can."

Here's the link to their website:

1) Military is irrelevant here. It's like wanted ads on craigslist: Single mom needs [turns out she's looking a nail salon recommendation or something to which 'single mom' status is equally irrelevant]
2) Pets aren't family. "Needs prayers" is overkill for a pet.
3) WTF this isn't thread-worthy
4) When it comes to families "needing prayers", so many things are more important than some dogs. Especially in military families
5) A website? Let me guess. They're soliciting donations. You (well, they) must be fucking kidding.

^Use his phrasing. When people see "Military family needs prayers", they expect to see something a little more pressing than 'the pets have problems'. Low is a very good word to use here.

Wait, wtf am I even talking about. This is all part of God's plan.

He needs us to put our hands together and bow our heads,
beg that He will change his will to appease our human sense of empathy that he obvious does not share.
All so that the soulless animal (that he decided to remove the legs from) can suffer a while longer before the family led by a man (who has spent his life by practicing violence against his fellow man) goes bankrupt during this economic recession that He...

I need to finish this paper.

Basic Allowance for Housing should cover it, if not...
BAS
Comrats
Sea Pay
Flight Pay
Incentive Pay
Reenlistment Bonus
COLA
Hazardous duty pay
or a relief society loan should cover it.

if not, they could always shop at the exchange, the commissary, use their tax breaks and tax free income (all allowances are tax free, duh) to save enough money to pay.

military spendthrifts get NO SOUP

Never have I ever heard of a family requesting public donations from people they don't know to cover vet bills.

If the vet bill is more than you can reasonably afford, then the dog goes the way of Ol' Yeller.

exactly...i love my dog as much as the next person (more than some, less than others, i suppose)...but it's a DOG...i wouldn't shy from paying hundreds of dollars to help her if she were sick and could expect a perfectly happy and normal life after the operation/treatment/whatever, but past that, she'd be put to sleep

this has got to be one of the stupidest threads i've seen in the lounge in a long time

Do you know what those are?
housing is for HOUSING,
BAS is for food (which is only $300/month),
comrats are for reservists,
you have to be in flight pay/sea pay status to receive said pay,
bonuses are rate specific and there are rules with those,
COLA is zip code specific and most areas dont receive it,
and you have to be in an imminent danger pay zone (like Iraq) to actually get it.

Theres all kinds of incentive pay but you have to do something to receive it.
