Did my max weight Saturday, 5x5. Then at x4, I tweaked my back. Felt a slight pull, I think it's a strain. Hours later, it made walk crooked, right lower back muscle felt tighter than my left.
Is this injury to the L region of my spine( alignment issue?) or lower back muscle.
My concern is that it's making me lean forward like a monkey and can't straightened my back when I stand up. It's also making me lean to the left, but I can't see that my spine is curved or anything. 6/21/2009 2:45:07 PM |

Lying down and sitting(though not for a long while) is more comfortable than standing.
I'm calling my doctor first thing monday morning, but in the meantime, just wanted some idea about my injury. It would make me sleep better if this sounds like a pulled lower back muscle than the spine :-) 6/21/2009 2:47:17 PM |

just take a lot of protein the next few days. then the muscle will repair itself super strong. I got this advice from aaprior.

increase calories, get enough sleep, stretch, foam roll/tennis ball myofacia release, contrast showers, and heat.
It's probably just muscular.

when i herniated my L5S1 disc, pinching the nerve, I was hunkered over like a hunchback for the next few weeks until I convinced my parents it wasn't a pulled hamstring. Is there any tingling/loss of sensation down either of your legs? 6/21/2009 11:06:41 PM |

I pulled a muscle really bad in my lower back doing squats. Sounds similar to what you've described. Going from a sitting position to standing was AWFUL (getting out of my car was the worst thing ever).
I had trainers giving me massages and stim, which I'm sure helped. I also did ball squats against a wall (that probably isn't the technical term).
Just take it easy. I wouldn't worry unless things start to get worse or your daily life is greatly affected. Most of the time a person is able to tell if they are injured or hurt. Sounds like you're just hurt. 6/22/2009 8:15:55 AM |

How long did it take for you to completely heal?
I'm doing as much as I can to heal before my Saturday game.
You're right, massaging works I can walk upright a little bit better than yesterday. But sitting down for a long period really sucks right now.
My pain isn't getting worse. I'm not getting tingling numbness or any sharp pain so I don't think it's a herniated disc. 6/22/2009 10:59:30 AM |

+ Ibuprofen to reduce inflammation...800mg, 3 times daily, no longer than 10 days and no more than 2400mg per day is supposed to be equivalent to a "prescription" amount from what I've been told. No alcohol or other NSAIDs of course.

Good call on the iB. I've also been told to use tylenol on top of that inbetween doses if it's really bad. 6/22/2009 5:01:23 PM |

Well I'm still walking a bit stiff, and trying to stay up right as much as I can- kinda strains my neck a little bit.
Not really sore, in no pain. Just STIFF. I feel like a fatty not having to work out for 5 days now, gonna try to give it a go tonight.
Doing a crossfit class. Will stop if uncomfortable. Will just have to be slower than normal and forgot about the time tonight. 6/25/2009 6:04:41 PM |

i've stopped messing with the deadlift, clean, press range of motion as i've gotten older.
i've realised that i'm no Maurice Jones Drew.. and i feel as long as i bench enough, do lat pulls & rows, do sprints, and keep a mean left hook, i won't need to 'at risk' my back by vice of my stupidity/inadvertent carelessness/bad form. 6/25/2009 6:09:40 PM |

I think I have a high threshold for pain. Or maybe it's mind over body
Cause I finished my rounds even though I felt a pull. At that time it didn't hurt so bad.
