Shit, she's probably tired of all the political fallout and constant crap she puts up with seeing herself made fun of and mocked on the news. Walking away from politics could be really good for her family, assuming it won't damage them financially.

Or I guess she could be crazy and considering running for president.

I can't see her becoming the 2012 Republican nominee. If she did get nominated, there's no way she could be elected.

So is this to say she is quitting early, rather than just stopping after 1 term? Am I reading that right? If that is correct I can't imagine another run in presidential politics. I mean a 1 term governor running would be rough enough, but a not making it through 1 term governor would be straight up impossible.

yes. she's quitting 18 months before her term is up.

or at least that's what i'm reading everywhere.

Quote :
"Gov. Sarah Palin will resign her office in a few weeks, she said during a news conference at her Wasilla home Friday morning. Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will be inaugurated at the Governor's Picnic at Pioneer Park in Fairbanks on Saturday, July 25, Palin said. There was no immediate word as to why she will resign, though speculation has been rampant that the former vice presidential candidate is gearing up for a run at the 2012 Republican presidential nomination."

Can someone give me a logical explanation as to why she is stepping down early??!!

I mean she only has, what, a year left in her term???

Is she going to move to Iowa/ New Hemisphere and camp out there for the next 2-3 years?

that or something is about to break.

OR she was only doing the governor thing with the hopes of getting into national politics and now that doesn't seem possible so she's quitting. i don' tknow.

Way I see it, there are 2 things here:

1) She wants to focus time and attention to next presidential election (this is the lesser likely, but it's still possible so..)

2) She's saving her family.

I'm no Palin supporter (all politicians sucks ass) but I'm curious if she hadn't quit and if 4 years from now, one of her kids killed themselves because of all the ridicule that they've gotten over the years, or one of her kids became a hardcore drug addict or something, then would you guys who are calling her a loser now say shit like, 'Stupid bitch put her job over her family....' or 'stupid bitch let politics fuck up her kids'....?

I mean maybe she actually cares about Alaska because she doesn't want anymore negative attention and money being spent on taking away from running an efficient govt and figures she's going to look way worse at the end of her term when she's accomplished little of what was needed to be accomplished and the state is in a bigger financial mess, all of which is going to be attributed to her.....

It's really no surprise our country is in the state in which it is in.....look how much money was spent on the Clinton blowjob...I mean what a fucking waste of money and time.....

If she's quitting because she doesn't want her family to further suffer the consequences of being a female politician, then I respect her 10x more than I would have otherwise...

puh-lease. Her family gets as much shit as they deserve - when you repeatedly trumpet the fact that you chose to have a handicapped child, and your teenage daughter gets knocked up while your preaching abstinence education, and your husband is part of an Alaskan Independence movement, and you willingly put yourself and your family on the cover of national magazines, then you'd be stupid to not realize everything you and they say and do will be scrutinized and ridiculed if it doesn't conform to your pro-life, fundie Christian, "USA, USA" attitude you constantly espouse.

the operative words being "she chose" to have the child, and made it a point to state that she did, in fact, have other options, and yet she would prefer to take the same choice she made away from other women.

When she says she wants to "effect positive change" outside of government that could mean she wants to wait a few months & take a job that has already been offered to her as a lobbyist or talking head w/ fox news or something.

I think it's her realization that politics made her use her family that is causing her to step down. Palin definitely dished out as much or more than she was served, but that doesn't mean her flip flopping on this issue isn't the correct, rational choice in light of her new perspective.

If there isn't something else about to drop out, I actually commend Palin on this move, and I hope everything works out well for her and her family.

I'm hoping she's resigning because of some impending scandal. With the scandal preferably being a steamy sex tape.

fuck that - she was elected to do a job, and it appears as soon as the going got tough (falling oil revenues, an unbalanced budget, significantly lower approval ratings [still over 50%]), the tough...... quit.

if she wanted to protect her family, then there's no better place to get out of the limelight than Juneau (or Wasilla). She could easily hole-up there for the next 1.5 years, quit giving interviews with Runners World and Fox News, stop the unnecessary out-of-state travel (to Yankees games), keep her daughters in the house, and finish the job she signed on for in relative peace.

Quote :

if she actually stays out of politics or activism for at least the next 5 years, and keeps her family on a tight-leash, then maybe i'll believe that.

there's either an upcoming scandal, or she got some offer she couldn't refuse - like her own multi-million dollar deal on Fox News or something, in which case it's still despicable to leave an elected state-office.

i keep reading this quote..... i can't believe this actually came out of a governor's mouth. there's so much wrong with it...

I don't think she'll be nominated if she runs in 2012. The left wing media has mocked her incessantly and given the joke of a president nothing but glowing coverage. I have never understood how they could give her such bad press and try to make her look stupid when Obama ran with a clown like Joe Biden That's enough to make anyone crack.

She's getting prepared to challenge incumbent moderate Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) in the 2010 Senate Race. Its political posturing of the worst kind, abandoning your post to dispel criticism and improve your standing for the primaries. Murkowski has already started to attack her, she knows whats up.

Quote :
"“I am deeply disappointed that the Governor has decided to abandon the State and her constituents before her term has concluded.”

Last year, shortly after the GOP presidential ticket's November loss, Murkowski warned Palin not to make a run for her Senate seat: “I can guarantee it would be a very tough election,” she told Politico."

emails from last October just released. Show Palin trying to get McCain's people to lie about Todd's involvement with the AIP

Quote :
"Palin blasted out an e-mail with the subject line "Todd" to Schmidt, campaign manager Rick Davis and senior advisor Nicolle Wallace, copying her husband on the message (all of the e-mails are reprinted below as written).

"Pls get in front of that ridiculous issue that's cropped up all day today - two reporters, a protestor's sign, and many shout-outs all claiming Todd's involvement in an anti-American political party," Palin wrote. "It's bull, and I don't want to have to keep reacting to it ... Pls have statement given on this so it's put to bed."

....

Schmidt hit "reply to all" less than five minutes after Palin's e-mail was sent. "Ignore it," he wrote. "He was a member of the aip? My understanding is yes. That is part of their platform. Do not engage the protestors. If a reporter asks say it is ridiculous. Todd loves america."

This clear cut response from the campaign's top dog carried an air of finality, but it did not satisfy Palin. She responded with another e-mail, adding five more names to the "cc" box, all of whom traveled on her campaign plane. They included her senior political adviser Tucker Eskew, senior aide Jason Recher, the lone traveling aide from her Alaska office Kris Perry, press secretary Tracey Schmitt and personal assistant Bexie Nobles.

Palin's insertion of the five additional staffers in the e-mail chain was an apparent attempt to rally her own troops in the face of a decision from the commanding general with which she disagreed. Her inclusion of her personal assistant was particularly telling about her quest for affirmation and support in numbers, since the young staffer was not in a position to have any input on campaign strategy.

"That's not part of their platform and he was only a 'member' bc independent alaskans too often check that 'Alaska Independent' box on voter registrations thinking it just means non partisan," Palin wrote. "He caught his error when changing our address and checked the right box. I still want it fixed."

Palin was attempting to bend the facts ever so slightly to fit neatly into her version of events. In truth, the box that Alaskans have the option of checking when registering to vote states the full name of the party, "Alaskan Independence Party," not "Alaska Independent," which would make an error by uncommitted voters more plausible.

Clearly irritated by what he saw as Palin's attempt to mislead her own campaign and apparently determined to demonstrate that the ultimate authority rested with him, Schmidt put the matter to rest once and for all with a longer response to everyone in the e-mail chain.

"Secession," he wrote. "It is their entire reason for existence. A cursory examination of the website shows that the party exists for the purpose of seceding from the union. That is the stated goal on the front page of the web site. Our records indicate that todd was a member for seven years. If this is incorrect then we need to understand the discrepancy. The statement you are suggesting be released would be innaccurate. The innaccuracy would bring greater media attention to this matter and be a distraction. According to your staff there have been no media inquiries into this and you received no questions about it during your interviews. If you are asked about it you should smile and say many alaskans who love their country join the party because it speeks to a tradition of political independence. Todd loves his country

We will not put out a statement and inflame this and create a situation where john has to adress this."

Schmidt's rebuttal to Palin's suggestion that reporters had asked her about the issue was particularly blunt in that it implicitly questioned her truthfulness. Furthermore, his unwillingness to budge an inch on the matter was a remarkable assertion of his power to pull rank over the candidate herself.

Palin was silent after his second e-mail and the campaign did not issue the statement she demanded.
