So I came home today to find swarms of June Beetles (not japanese beetles) flying all over my yard...and I mean hundreds of them. What should I do about them? I read online that they are harmless, but they're annoying the crap outta me and the dogs. Also, will they go away soon or are they likely to stick around? I don't remember ever seeing them this time last year. 7/14/2009 1:29:27 PM |

I have them too...the good thing is that they only last for a few weeks and then they are gone.
Last year when I was buying my house, I came here for the termite inspection and they were all over the place. 2 weeks later when I started moving in my furniture...they were gone. 7/14/2009 1:58:54 PM |

BAG-A-BUG shit works wonders with bait that acts as pheromones to the beetles. Change the full bags out every few days and you should be good. 7/14/2009 2:00:54 PM |

I always like to find a good spider-web in my yard -- something big like an orb spider.... ..then you catch june bugs and throw them into the web, and sit back and enjoy nature's show 7/14/2009 11:55:37 PM |

milky spore.
2-3 applications and you'll never see a grub again. 7/15/2009 9:37:08 PM |

what's the downside?
at my last house, the grubs destroyed my lawn. the following year i treated with milky spore and never had a problem with grubs again.
put out milky spore last year when we moved in prophylactically. so far, so good.

are grubs actually destroying her lawn tho, it seems likes shes just annoyed that they exist
i just advocate not controlling insects unless they are actually damaging, but I suppose different things bother different people

yeah i dunno about june beetles, but it works like a champ on japanese beetles.
BUT, don't leave it out too long or it'll attract japanese beetles from surrounding areas. As soon as you stop seeing them all over your plants, take that shit down.
Or at the very least, place them as far away as possible from whatever you're trying to protect and hope they ignore your plants on the way to what they believe will be a big bag o' sex. 7/17/2009 1:49:11 PM |

I LOVE doing this. I hate spiders but I will readily admit it is one of the neatest thing to watch how fast they move on their webs. I fed a writing spider all the time at my old internship... She would attach and piece of silk to it and then go to a separate part of the web and pull it up like a crane. 7/17/2009 3:09:00 PM |

we always caught both in ours...they're both scarabs, so maybe it caught both...but there were scores more japanese beetles than junes on our property, so who knows
