What's the best way to get this done? Meta tags in place, linked to several first page websites. Only thing is traffic is not high as it is new, hence the reason they want it on the first page.
Any help?
Thanks! 7/15/2009 9:05:35 PM |

Hire some Indians to do shady ass SEO work.
Or just have a web site with great, relevant content and lots of meaningful incoming links. 7/15/2009 9:08:23 PM |

there is an entire industry called Search Engine Optimization with hundreds of companies you can pay thousands of dollars to do this for you.
But..... "Or just have a web site with great, relevant content and lots of meaningful incoming links." is the best advice you can get.
You cannot get to the front page of Google just because you want to, or by meta-tagging your pages properly (meta tags are worth less than ever, now, at least as far as getting ranked higher). First, you have to have a website worthy of being front-page material for certain search terms. That is up to you, to create good content on whatever subject the site is about. YOu will need to build a small audience first, and hope that you can continue to improve the site content, and maybe the site will spread by word of mouth some, and you can do some Google advertising too just to get clicks.
But then the important part after all this is that other sites will need to, or will want to, link to your site (i.e. incoming links). Google loves this - it tells them that your site is popular enough that other sites are willing to send people to it. And the "more important" the site that sends a link your way, the more Google likes it. For example, if your roommate links to it on her blog, and nobody reads your roommate's blog, then Google doesn't care. If you somehow get a writeup or review from a well-read site, though, like TechCrunch or Ars Technica or whatever, then Google likes that a lot, because it tells them your site is more "important." Or if your company gets a writeup in the News and Observer or the Triangle Business Journal and their sites links to your site, that is good. Or, if ncsu.edu links to your site, that is good. Or if you make it big time and cnn.com link to you, that is great. Stuff like that. 7/15/2009 9:54:18 PM |

y'know, despite that explanation, she's still going to ignore it and insist on some shortcut. 7/15/2009 9:56:03 PM |

Depends on what you want to be on the first page for ...
I would suggest getting the site on the first page for the following search phrase:
"Kiwi doesnt know shit about Sarch egrine opinmization"
Put that phrase in your title, in your content, and in your meta description, and then wait for it to show up in google. Once you have accomplished this, move on to something shorter and more relevant.

PS I was gonna post a picture of Matthew Lesko, the dollar bill suit guy, but I couldn't remember his name. So I googled "dollar bill suit guy" and the first hit was leskobooks.com. That's doing SEO the right way.7/16/2009 12:19:23 PM |
