through Raleigh Parks and Rec? I'm in the process of putting a team together before registration, just seeing if anyone's done it and had feedback about it... what to expect... if they enjoyed it. I got the impression you could be average and still go out and have fun.

Also, they don't seem to have much planned out, but do they normally play on weekends or during the week?

Also, any of you guys really enjoy playing and are only "average"? If I can't scrap enough friends together who have at least some background/skill, I might start asking around. It looks like we might need more females.

the raleigh leagues are pretty good. They play M-Th nights. The co-ed leagues have funky rules (2 F OF, 2F IF, 1F P/C), it's a pretty big league with a few levels.

I don't currently play in the city league, but I'd be interested in joining another team.

I've played in the fall baseball league....it's operated pretty well, although the umps didn't show up one time. The biggest issue was teams not having enough players on game days, but that's not the league's fault.

Yeah, that's our concern... filling a team. Right now we have 2 women and 4 men committed, with another possible 2 women. The best of us played on the high school fast pitch team and a LOT growing up, while some just have played the game enough to know the mechanics and how to play, but aren't terribly good. None of us are exceptionally talented, but I'm trying to pull in people who want to try to do well, willing to come out and practice every so often and take it seriously, but also have fun with it and not turn it into a hugely competitive thing.

People from outside of Raleigh can be on the team, but I think it cost them an extra $24 in registration fees ($340 or so split amongst the team).

Other than getting a team, my next biggest concern is pitching. My wife desperately wants to be the catcher (LOL), so a male pitcher would be ideal. I could probably go out there and throw a bunch of meatball pitches to home plate with relatively good accuracy (3 ft circle around home plate, not good enough though), so I'm gonna work on it a lot over the next couple weeks to see if I can hone it in and put it where I want every time.

I really do have a feeling that we're going to need female players, if only one or two. If any females on here are interested in playing, speak up. We may need one or two guys as well when all is said and done, especially considering it would be good to have more than the minimum 10 fielded every inning. If our level of competition (we really might probably be in the bottom level league) and the cost seems right, let us know. We'd really like people who are about on the same level as us and if you're a good enough pitcher, we may need you!

I am definitely interested (have played since I was 4 including fast-pitch and slow-pitch). The only thing that might interfere is my work schedule right now. That could easily change if needbe. Keep me posted!!!

I went out and bought a glove today and some used balls for practice. We're still waiting for some friends to respond to see if we can fill out the team. We're going to be having informal practices at Kentwood at random times over the next few weeks. If any of you guys are interested in joining us, even just to get out and mess around, shoot me a PM with your email address and I'll include you in the emails about practices I send out. This might be a good way for us to get to know each other a little before we start with the team.

If any of you are good at pitching, maybe you could meet us out there. My friend and I can pitch OK, but we're nowhere near good enough (yet?). If we need any actual "quality" players on the team, it'll be a pitcher. Just shoot me a PM if you're interested in coming out to the practices.

If you end up having someone play that does not have a Raleigh address, just put down a Raleigh address for them and avoid paying the $24 fee for that.

apparently, I can pitch...

not well, but consistently enough to make this thing happen! At practice today got banged in the shin, sweaty as fuck, sore as hell, and all around had an awesome time.

Just to any interested parties, I think we found enough guys, but there's still a need for one or two girls. If you're interested and haven't posted yet, shoot me a PM.

in the cary co ed league if a male pitches a female has to catch and vice versa. so if they follow the same rules a male would HAVE to pitch not just be ideal

I registered the team today. We're the PTPs.

^ The impression I got was that the games were either M/W or T/Th, just depending on how they schedule you... and you could make requests, so I requested T/Th if possible. It will probably be those days, maybe M/W. They start the week of Aug 17th, should be 1-2 games a week. The thing said it ended in October, probably earlier in October would be my guess.

Seriously, we should have named our team "NC State Shit"...

So, we had gotten enough people saying they'd play (in fact, even a couple too many), however a couple of them backed out and one of our female players got injured. We're now in a position of needing one or two female players who know how to play (though, as stated before you don't have to be very good, we're in the lower league).

Games are on M/W and can start btw 6:30 and 8:30, last an hour or so, and people will probably want to be able to get there a little early. We play at Laurels Hills Park up on Edwards Mill Rd. The cost if you're interested in getting in for the whole season with shirt included is $50. Games start this Monday, so we need people ASAP and we need people who are willing to commit. There's no real time to back out anymore with the season about to begin.

If, for example, you can only play Wed, we do need an extra female for Wed games to replace a person who can't make it, so let me know if that works for anyone, too. Maybe you can pay like half the cost and play the Wed games... I dont know.

If you're interested, send me a PM with your email and phone number and I'll give you a call. Thanks!

bttt

Is there anyone who wants to play? We NEED more players for the games that start in two days. We are down 1 female on Monday's games and 2 on Wednesdays. We do have like 1 female that can play Wed (to keep us from forfeiting), but she has zero skill. Let me know if you want to get involved.

(This reminds me of the whole "quick guys I have a match tonight" xbox thing)

i posted another CL ad and got a couple bites. Hopefully they'll pan out this time and we'll add some more players. I also found two friends who seem really interested in joining... so maybe...

Just wish all this had happened some other time than the night before our first game

and nicklepickle... we may call on you to sub in a game if you're still interested... I'll shoot you a message if it looks like we'll be down again (though... tomorrow might be when we need you the most haha)
