I still have fun with the original Metroid every so often

i figured the original out without the cheats and maps and shit and still found it to be a pain in the ass.

i love super metroid, but if i had the choice between playing through that and prime, i would choose prime. not saying it's a better game or anything, but it's harder than super the first time through, and it will keep you more entertained for longer.

^You should definitely check this game out if you enjoy the 2-D Metroid games.

Super Metroid remains as one my favorite video games in history. I'd encourage you to also play Metroid: Zero Mission and Metroid Fusion on the GBA. The Castlevania series are similar (non-linear sidescrollers) but not as good as the Metroid series.

Super Metroid is still the best 2d game ever made.

The first Metroid Prime game was a damn near perfect translation of the franchise into 3d.
Prime 2 & 3 were fun, but decided to go with a more "extreme"/shoot-em-up angle that wasn't true to the series.

I wholeheartedly agree with whoever said Prime 1 was a damn near perfect translation of the series into 3D. There were so many ways they could have fucked it up, but they nailed it, and in my eyes Prime 1 stands out in the series every bit as much as Super Metroid does. Everything you loved about SM is there in Prime; the desolate atmosphere, the lonely vibe, variety of terrain, awesome music, epic bosses, and of course the exploration. One of my favorite features of Prime 1 was that, like Super, you had no idea where to go and what to do in the game. You are virtually left alone in the game with only your wits to guide you (okay, so this is only half true.........there is a Hint system for all the non-purists out there, but you do have the option to turn it off). It might be hard to believe how successful Prime was in re-capturing the feeling and atmosphere of Super, but I have yet to see a franchise translated into 3D with greater precision than Prime 1 did from Super. Prime 2 and 3 were great games in their own right, but they were definitely deviations of the classic Metroid feel that the original and Super were known for and that Prime successfully emulated to damn near the tiniest detail. If you are a fan of the Metroid series and especially Super, I highly recommend picking up Prime 1 and playing it. I guarantee you that you will not be let down.

Shit maybe. I don't own a Wii, so I wouldn't know. I just hated playing the port on other people's Wiis.
