hey,

I think I'm going to be put in Wolf Village next semester. Apparently all the normal dorms are FULL, with a waiting list of 300+.

Can I walk to class or is it going to be way to far? Do I need a car?

Help me out here!

you can walk, but it's a bit of a hike. take the wolfline bus.

[Edited on July 20, 2009 at 1:34 PM. Reason : i would just opt out of on-campus living and get a real apartment. cheaper and bigger.]

i lived in wv for 2 years (after living off-campus, actually)...i preferred it, though it's more expensive than either the dorms or having your own place off-campus

anyway, you don't need a car at all...the bus comes every 10 minutes...i only rode it when it was miserable outside (precipitation or lower than 40°F), otherwise i biked everywhere on campus

you need a gun

that place is crawling with blacks and mexicans

My friend Karen got robbed her first night, raped her second night, and murdered her third night there

all by different people in isolated incidents

avoid at all costs

Isn't wolf village the one on the corner of Western and Gorman? If it is, a car would be pretty useless. Wolfline it.

that depends

if you're a fatty then it's way too far to walk, hell even fountain would be a pain, otherwise it's a long walk but not thaaaat bad

but more often than not you'll probably end up taking the bus so you can sleep in longer

yo quagmire, why did you prefer it?

was it the tiny-ass room with the shitty bed?

or was it the lack of a dishwasher?

or maybe the fact that you get the privilege of sharing a bathroom?

should i go on? my gf stayed at WV one year. i pay significantly less than she did and i have my own bathroom, a bedroom that's twice as big, free parking, a porch to grill on, only 1 apartment mate, and i'm literally across the street from WV.

qft.

Not to mention, riding the bus on the way to classes is very fast... Riding the bus on the way back, however, takes forever and is usually not worth it. I found I could walk back and get to my apartment in less time it took the bus (due to all those damn time stops).

I was in Broughton after hours many times my senior year so I often made the walk back to WV after the buses had stopped running. It took about 20 mins. Not much of a big deal unless you are a fatty or the weather sucks. It's actually quite nice in the spring. It will take about 35 mins to get over to the Court of the Carolinas though, and I'd say about 10 mins to get to Fountain.

1.) at the time, i didn't have a shitton of crap that i didn't need, so the "tiny-ass" room was more than big enough for everything i could need (i actually really liked watching tv and/or movies from my bed)...additionally, i've spent so much time sleeping outside between camping as a kid and doing field work now that sleeping on a "shitty" bed is more comfortable than sleeping on the hard ground with rocks and pinecones and critters and such...i don't have trouble sleeping on much of anything, so the bed wasn't a big deal (and it wasn't THAT bad)

2.) i have a dishwasher now that i ONLY use when i have a lot of guests over...past that, i wash my dishes by hand and always have, so no dishwasher wasn't an issue (also, at one point, all four of our gf's stayed there pretty regularly, so we had plenty of women to cook and clean )

3.) i grew up with two brothers who left the bathroom a disaster...sharing a bathroom with an adult that isn't a slob made no difference to me whatsoever

4.) oh, i agree with you...wolf village is the most expensive way to live on-campus and off-campus unless you're in a frat...the difference is that my schooling was all paid for by scholarships, so it didn't cost me a dime...also, for those of us that had to be on campus ALL THE TIME (more than your average student, i'll bet), living in WV was better than living in a dorm, closer than MOST (not all, obviously, as it depends where your classes are) off-campus housing, and helluva lot less sketch (i'd take WV over any of the college slums that surround campus)

i admit that i'm a bit of a snob, though...when i lived off-campus, i ONLY lived in family-oriented gated communities (not really any more expensive than your average apartment, they're just mostly not near state) because i didn't want to have to deal with obnoxious college kids...and based on the experiences related to me by friends who lived right around ncsu but off-campus, the cheaper places around ncsu draw the kind of college kid that i didn't want to live near

*shrug*...my roommates were awesome and it was the best housing experience i had in college...i had a blast

eh, nothing you wrote really made WV sound better than the other options. it's like on each of the things that make it inferior you were content to settle for it.

all of my school is paid for too, but i still like living somewhere cheaper. puts a bigger refund check in my pocket each semester

yo chief, you can't get parking pass (at least by following policy) that would let you park any closer to main campus. you'll get an f permit (or whatever they've changed it to) and you'll only be allowed to park in that zone, which is no where close to your classes. woflline it

you've got to be a very lazy and/or fat person if you don't choose to walk or take a bike.

I'd take the bus only on rainy days.

Ain't crossing Gorman a bitch at times? And where the hell do you live, next door?

About WV, bring a bike and you can be anywhere on campus in ~5 minutes. You have nowhere closer to park than in the WV parking lot with the permit you'd have, so it's not needed to have a car unless you want to drive around town. The buses are good on campus.

Shit you all a bunch of pussies. At the most it took 20 min to get to the belltower from WV. Its a great way to get in shape and takes no time at all to get anywhere.

Thanks guys. 20+ replies in just a couple hours, great forum.

So I just found out that I am actually number 17 on the male waiting list, as opposed to the number 4 I was told yesterday.

NeuseRvrRat, what is the apartment name that is right across the street from WV? Is this true? What other apartment are as close to the center of campus as WV?

I feel kinda screwed I got the money to go back to State this fall but have nowhere to live....

rhyne's gate is kinda behind the wendy's directly across from the mckimmon center. that's where i stay. WV is on the northeast corner of the gorman/western intersection and i'm on the southwest corner. there's a wolfline stop directly across the street from my complex. PM me if you have any more specific questions.
