I was tellin someone, he's someone that I could see you actually finding and getting into your group in an apocalyptic situation. Damn if he's an ornery asshole, but he's damn useful and you need all the help you can get. So for the premise of the show, he's about perfect.

What was the wood gasifier? Incinerate the wood to create smoke to turn a turbine?

the wood gasifier idea is to burn wood to heat a vessel of other wood. supposedly when it gets hot it'll release a flammable gas mixture (hydrogen, methane, etc.) which can be piped into an internal combustion engine. pipe dream for these folks imo.

no idea, i didn't start watching till about half an hour in

last episode ended with them making the battery bank, and next thing I know they have a combustible engine to use as a generator, a wood gasifier, and two goats

^they changed to a smaller pulley on the engine and kept the alternator pulley the same. if the engine is running at the same rpm, this should give lower rpm on the alternator

maybe they were worried about excessive stress on the system? I don't know pulleys and all that stuff, but that would be my guess. Like if the welds couldn't handle the torque

Hey, mythbusters got a car running by spraying hydrogen gas directly into the throttle body i believe.

They were like HEY LOL THE CAR IS RUNNING! Then it blew up back at them, singed some eyebrows, and had mr. walrus not been so quick on the valve to shut off the hydrogen container they probably would've both been blown the fuck up.

It was one of those "Dur, we're assholes LOL" moments for them (always classic when they have those).

This thread makes me wish my goods were here already so I had a TV and could watch some shows. I'm dying for some brain drain entertainment to watch after work these days.

Its actually pretty fascinating. Makes me wish I had some electrical knowledge

The problem to start the show was that the people are drawing too much power with their power tools. They have a power system using daisy-chained car batteries (12 or so?) and they recharge the batteries using a Frankenstein generator made from a power washer, something, and a car alternator. To increase the charging rate, they took another car alternator and are going to use the two of them combined.

Its almost like a down and dirty Mythbusters/Junkyard Wars

Just as soon as the survivors were feeling good after a great day, a ton of marauders came in with a diversion to the front yard to get the survivor's attention, and then others went inside and destroyed 2 days worth of food and in general wrecked the place.
