I can't speak for Topsail island, but I was at two different beaches last weekend and I was stunned at how many open wi-fi spots I found just riding around. As long as there was a house within 100 ft I never had any problems finding a signal. At one point I literally saw 14 different SSIDs. And this is on an iPhone which doesn't really have that great of a wi-fi antenna. I assume that most, if not all, of the rental properties just provide free open internet to the people that are staying there. That's the only think I can think of to explain so many open spots. Then again, I've never been to Topsail and know nothing about it, so maybe it's completely different down there. 7/25/2009 12:38:07 AM |
