Unfortunately the "Click here" link isn't working. I'm assuming Raleigh still sells them though. Call somebody with the city's solid waste services department and they should be able to tell you. It was pretty cheap; about $33 if I remember correctly. About half what they were in stores.

Yeah I had seen that link before and found the "click here" link didnt work. I also saw on Apex's website that they have them but it sounded like it was for Apex residents only. I may give them a call anyways and see what they say. And I'll call Raleigh too. Thanks.
Also someone else mentioned that Orange county was selling them but they had run out. Not sure if they have any new ones in stock. 7/29/2009 9:17:00 PM |

^ is this the one you got?
Some friends of mine have the one like I posted and like it a lot, they've had no problems with it. I found one at Sams Club I'm going to get. Thanks! 7/29/2009 10:09:00 PM |

Quote : | "that shit will fall apart." | Exactly. If your plastic compost bin breaks within a few years of buying it and you have to landfill it.... well.... However.... If that's the only way someone will begin to compost -- they should go for it.7/30/2009 5:55:22 AM |

I made an open air one out of untreated pine. I think the materials were about $20-25 and it took me about an hour because I had to use screws. I have a nail gun now so I think you could do one in 20 minutes if you were efficient. I do have to turn it by hand but it's not a big deal. I keep a proper ratio of moisture/nitrogen/carbon and I don't have any sort of smell issues with it and with the summer heat it stays plenty hot in the middle. Actually, I think I put in the container garden thread I measured the internal temp of it back in April when we had some very cool days and it was still about 130F. 7/30/2009 8:31:52 AM |

Quote : | "Not sure how you break a compost bin." | Simple: Let the sun and weather make the thin plastic brittle, then merely tap it with a shovel....

Built one myself a few years back. Wasn't difficult at all and I suck at wood work so that should tell you something. 7/30/2009 10:55:35 AM |
