My dog vomited about 5 or 6 times this morning over the course of a couple of hours - didn't bring up his food....just a whitish liquid. He might have been drinking water in between and bringing that up.

I took him to the vet this morning and they did a quick checkup. In the middle of it, he went out and pooped and seemed to be much better. The vet gave him an antacid injection and told me not to give him food or water in the morning and just give him a little in the evening and see how he did with that.

Since I brought him back home, he's been very quiet and doesn't look happy at all. A few minutes ago,he vomited again. This time it was a yellowish liquid. The vet won't be able to see him till Monday and I have no idea if I should give him something to eat and maybe some water or ice cubes. Please advise!

Need some more info...

What breed? Age? Sex? Spayed/Neutered? Other health issues?

Also, make sure doesn't get dehydrated. That's a big concern with constant vomiting or diarrhea.

Carter, my pup, goes through this from time to time.

She'll go for about three-four days where's she throwing up either clear or yellowish liquid 2-3x a day, stop, and then do it again in a few months. (although its been a solid 3ish months since i've seen her do it)

She's fine so the vets think it may just be minor digestive issues she occasionally gets.

I always make sure that she has plenty of water. and just clean up after her.

Hope your little guy is ok

Is there any sign of a stuffy nose? Our dogs sometimes suck snot out of their nose and throw up.

Corgi-Border collie mix (most likely ) 3 year old neutered male. No other health issues. No stuffy nose.

I gave him a little water an hour ago and he brought it up within a couple of minutes. I'm worried about dehydration - are ice cubes the answer?

Try putting a little pedialyte into the water. Ice cubes can work too. Keep him cool. You can also call an emergency vet. Even if you don't take him in, they can answer a lot of your questions.

My Chihuahua has Irritable Bowel Syndrome and has bouts of vomiting and diarrhea at times. I give him diluted Pedialyte (it's in the aisle with diapers at the grocery store). I've also given him diluted Gatorade before. Try to control his intake--encourage him to drink it slowly if possible.

Also, you may try giving him Immodium or Pepto Bismol--I've never tried that since my dog is so small, but I think it's pretty safe.

Good luck...I know it's scary when they get so sick!

My dog got bit twice on the paw by a copperhead tonight while we were on a walk. His paw is pretty swolen and oozing but he is doped up so he doesnt know what planet he's on. Hopefully he'll make a full recovery.

Like someone else mentioned, there are vets to call during the weekends, & even at night if you're concerned.

^ I'm in Greensboro.

I gave him a little diluted pedialyte a couple of times last night and he seemed able to keep it down. But it was just a couple of sips...not too much. He perked up a little this morning.

I decided to take him to the emergency vet after talking with them on the phone (maybe excessive, but this is the first time he's been this unwell and he's my first pet so I want to make sure he's ok...especially since he hasn't had much food or water intake for over a day now).

They gave him an injection to keep his fluid levels up and couldn't determine anything from a physical exam. I'll probably take him back to my regular vet tomorrow.

I hope he is doing better by now, but if not, Banfield (in Petsmart) is open every day of the week and charges $35 for the office visit. I know alot of people don't like them since they are cooporate, but it is much cheaper than an emergency vet visit. I know the one in Apex is open 12-5 today and the doctor there today is very good.
Dehydration and electrolyte imballance are two of the big worries with vomiting. If you pick up his skin and it doesnt go back down or if his gums feel sticky, he is dehydrated. If his gums are pale, he could be anemic or going into shock. The most common causes for vomiting that I know of are pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion, and GI foreign bodies. Pancreatitis is usually caused if they eat fatty foods and they have vomiting and diarrhea. It is typically treated with IV fluids for a few days. If he just ate something that didn't agree with him, he should be getting better by now. If he ate something that is unable to pass, he could have a GI blockage that needs to be surgically removed. He could also have a toxicity to something that he got into-chemicals, etc. If he is still vomitting, he prbly needs bloodwork and maybe xrays or ultrasound. I would also try feeding him chicken (no skin, bones, or salt) and rice instead of his regular food. Hope this helps.

Another tough day for the little guy

No vomiting today because he hadn't anything to bring up. But he was generally listless and not anywhere close to his rambunctious self.

I'll take him to his usual vet first thing tomorrow and probably leave him there for the day so he has someone to watch him and see how he's doing. Sebastian says thanks for all the good wishes TWW!

Good luck to the Pup! he's in good hands!

Both my dogs had vomiting and bloody diarrhea and were extremely fatigued and unreactive. turned out the first had parvo (she's ok now!) and the second has a rare disease (HGE) that looks just like parvo.
Things I noticed from both of them were:
vomiting + bloody diarrhea (although 2 different types of bloody diarrhea)
refusing juicy filet mignon or kraft cheese
Hiding in corners/under furniture and not coming when called
Visibly shaking (hge, not parvo)

You're not talking about the one on Friendly are you? They were ready to euthanize my mom's dog over a spider bite. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

He spent the day at the vet yesterday. An x-ray didn't show anything so they gave him a little food and water a couple of times and he was able to keep it down. I brought him home and fed him a little again at dinner time. He's perked up a bit on the whole and is keen to eat.

The only downside is he was whining a couple of times during the night because he needed me to take him out to poop. The stool was quite watery but I don't know if you could say it was diarrhoea because he only ate yesterday for the first time in 3 days.

That happens to my dog every once in a while, usually a small amount of milk fixes the problem.

My dog would do that, but my mom would just let it out of the house really early in the morning. It would start eating grass, and about a few hours later, I guess it helped because it stopped puking and the diarrhea began to turn a little more solid.

Not sure if this helps.

^ why is spaying her a bad thing? ? ?

Spaying a dog benefits her (and you) by elimating heat cycles, reduces the desire to roam, elimates or reduces the risk of mammay gland tumors, ovarian and uterine cancers, improves behavior, etc.... Not to mention eliminates unwanted litters. This country is already overpopulated with pets.

hope the surgery goes well

I would take her elsewhere, you shouldn't be denied services because your dog isn't spayed.

BUMPING FOR A SICK CAT!!!!

so here's the deal - my kitty is pooping blood AGAIN. this happened before, i took her in, she had hemorrhoids, they gave her some steroids (so it wasn't itchy and uncomfortable i guess) and then some medicine for the rhoids.

now she is pooping blood and acting really, really lethargic. normally if i say her name she looks at me or meows or runs up to me. she's 3 years old but still a REALLY playful, energetic cat. today she has just been sitting on the couch and like not moving and she has a sad look on her face. and when i say her name she doesn't even pick her head up to look at me

i know that probably doesn't seem like it means anything, but her behavior is REALLY out of the ordinary.

earlier today she dragged her butt across the carpet and left a big blood/poop trail

should i call the vet today and see if i can take her in this afternoon or tomorrow morning? they're open 8 - 12 saturdays. or should i just see how the weekend goes and then take her next week if she is still acting odd?

if you wait over the weekend you run the risk of having to take her to an emergency vet which will cost $texas.

take her in!

my kitty had chronic (3x a year for 3 years) urinary tract infections. a few months ago she peed on the carpet and it was red, so i figure it's another UTI. had i waited it would have gotten much worse - i took her in that day and X-rays confirmed she had a bladder stone and she needed surgery.

vets are expensive but this could be bad, and it isn't the kinda thing you wanna wait and see if it gets better.

also, if it's chronic hemorrhoids, i'd say there is something bigger wrong with her and they need to do some investigating.

so she didn't have hemorrhoids which was good news i guess. bad news is she DID have a fever and had to be put immediately on fluids to cool her off. they think it is just an infection and i have antibiotics for 7 days. but he said if she doesn't feel better by tuesday to bring her back in. and if anything else happens tonight, they're open from 8-12 tomorrow so if she goes downhill i should bring her in the morning. but they said it shouldn't - said they've seen a lot of cats recently with fevers and that something is just going around!

my poor baby. now she hates me for subjecting her to this!!! but the fluids did help - they said that they would - she isn't acting all chipper or anything by any means but when i took her in she was like limp like a ragdoll. now she will at least respond when i say her name.
