1980 Olive Brown all original (even includes the inspection light, tool bag, jack, and owners manual)

I think I have just signed up for a very long/expensive/emotional relationship.

2f ftw.

ps? no a/c i see.

look behind that diamond plating, usually a cheap lazy way to cover up a bunch of rust.

good luck you will enjoy it. if it doesn't have power steering my dad used produce his own one-off power steering brackets that don't require your loosening a head bolt (would cause ppl to blow headgaskets on the 'ol rigz). it was the best bracket on the market. I think he got tired of doing it though. But, let me know if you are interested and I will ask him.

one of the first things to happen is that suck ass diamond plate in the back is coming off, otherwise she's a beaut.

ambulance doors ftw as well. do you know which tranny or transfer case (i 4get) is in there? there was a low geared one and a higher. I hope you got the higher. I drove around the lower geared one and although pretty sweet, fucking sucks for highway.

it's the higher ratio. the guys swears up and down there's no rust behind the diamond plate (hard to believe i know). we'll see when i take it off. to his credit though, the rest of the body is spotless. even the typical rust areas (rear door sills, bottom of ambulance doors) are completely clean.

no a/c or power steering. when i drove it it reminded me of driving my dad's old massey-furgueson 135.

he's getting too old for that stuff now a days. he's bout 60 and works all the time. he restored a couple then said 'never again'.

lol ill ask him tho.

I remember he paid extra $ to get an aluminum tub for that one that he welded in.

^^ i've always liked the fj55s even though no one seems to give them any respect. to me they always looked sort of weirdo futuristic for their time.

incidently, there is an '82 on ebay at the moment that looks exactly like what i want mine to look like when i get her fully restored in a few years:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ40-1982-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ40-All-Original-NO-RESERVE_W0QQitemZ140336770696QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item20acb92e88&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245

well except for i'm keeping the the original am radio in mine.

my wife wants me to get a personalized plate: "FJ40 FTW"

not sure, but i remember hearing that fj55's are harder to find body parts for etc. bc they are less popular. at the same time that could go vice versa.. but I think they are harder to find parts for... i think. look into it, if you plan on keeping her for a while/fixing up etc..

Very true. We ended up buying 2 parts trucks to get all the parts we needed for the one we are working on.

oh i know all about the rare/hard to find parts...i've read through countless posts on ih8mud and pirate (concerning the 55) the drivetrain is pretty standard for all the older landcruisers, and that's all i really care about.

gk, have any pics /info on the one you are working on?

sorry for the hijack
