So I got a speeding ticket driving to the beach a couple months ago - but my question is this: I was planning on getting off work to go to my court date, ticket is 70 in a 55, I haven't gotten a ticket in 5 years, I just need to show up to take care of it. But apparently I can no longer get off work because our staffing situations have changed. Will they move my court date over the phone? 8/6/2009 3:25:22 PM |

Sorry - got the ticket in Martin County, I have to go to the Williamston Court House. I can pay the fee through the mail but I don't want the insurance increase, so thats a last resort.
I called already and left a message, nobody answered. So I figured I would ask here and see if anyone knows if this is doable. I need to know asap whether I can or not so i can figure out what to do. 8/6/2009 3:38:44 PM |

more than likely you can get a continuance over the phone, but if it's in traffic court it'll prolly get continued to district court

Where are the district courts located? That would be beneficial if I could get it moved somewhere closer. 8/6/2009 3:41:18 PM |

Is spending the time and money to travel and miss work really that much better than just getting a lawyer for something as petty as a ticket? 8/6/2009 3:53:33 PM |

Every lawyer i've talked to has been 300$+. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places. The ticket is 150$ - so figure in adding 4 hours of gas, around 180$ total. Its not a matter of missing work, I have enough time off that I can miss work when I need it - its more a problem of this particular week I can't miss work. 8/6/2009 3:58:47 PM |
