I'm going up to Kerr Lake this weekend and part of next week to visit my family who are renting a cabin near Clarksville, VA.

This is my first time at Kerr Lake so I'm looking to check out some new things. Google isn't much help so I'd rather ask for some personal recommendations from people who have been there before.

Other than the usual lake stuff like swimming, fishing, etc....what are some fun things to do up there? Any unique places to check out?

Thanks TWW!

"Kerr"
Everyone needs to start pronouncing this like it's spelled.... "ker" (rhyming with "fur")
...or change the spelling to, "Karr", like people say it.

That is all.

There isn't a whole lot in Clarksville...unless you go hike around the Occoneechee State Park.

There is supposed to be an amazing Steakhouse in/near Clarksville, VA.

I think this is the place:

i grew up near kerr lake, google isn't much help because there really isn't much to speak of. the surrounding counties (at least on the NC side) have been economically depressed for pretty much all of my lifetime.

there's a bunch of put-ins for boats, public access picnic areas, and rv camp grounds. you can think of it as where the nascar crowd goes to vacation if they can't afford myrtle beach. they used to give free tours at the dam, that could be neat if you're into engineering stuff. i haven't been there in 10+ years, things may have changed since then, but i doubt it.

OK so I just got back earlier from spending the weekend up there.

We visited the dam but they haven't been giving tours since 9/11, however the ranger said that they are likely going to start them back up again soon. Anyways it was pretty cool that you can drive across the dam and really take in how big it is. There is a good place to swim near the dam; I was impressed by how clean the water is by Piedmont standards, so that was nice. All in all it's a really nice place to visit if you just want to drop off the grid for a little while and relax.

In addition to fishing and drinking beer you can also drink liquor and burn wood.

^^ Where is that at? I grew up there and still go there often around the Nutbush/Satterwhite Point area.

Also there is an island not far from the dam that has a decent beach area that you can chill at.

I've never heard of anything around there, but I visit Lake Gaston on the other side of the dam rather than Kerr. There are ATV and dirt bike trails all around the area, but there's nothing legal or sanctioned about it so you would be trespassing.
