I was back home in Charlotte this past week and went to a lounge that had free salsa dancing lessons on Tuesdays. Do ya'll know of any fun things to do like this around Raleigh for cheap? I've checked out theweeklys.com and saw some drink specials on there but not really things to do.

Also, if you know good drink specials that aren't on that website put those on here too!

cheap i guess is subjective.

There are segway (sp?) tours around raleigh for ~60 a person. I've been told they are quite interesting.

But that was from people who arent from here or have not lived here for long.

Sometimes I go to Golden Corral around 7 and watch the fat kids fight over the yogurt machine.

i don't think anyone would consider $120 cheap to take a date on a segway around raleigh

Downtown Live and Alive after 5 are free. They are pretty interesting. They are on myspace/facebook. Also check out "Live. Work. Play." at http://www.downtownraleigh.com

Ornamentea sometimes has free/cheap jewelry making classes.

First Friday is tonight and there is a free bus and free wine at the galleries. Not sure what it is like though but we plan to go tonight and check it out.

Oh, and Tir na nOg has a run club every other Monday with a 3 mile and a 5 mile loop and free food afterward (if you finish running before it's all gone...my slow ass has to start at 5:30 instead of 6 just to make sure I get done before nightfall... ) It's really fun..after the run, they will sometimes play a game (for cinco de mayo, they did mexican bingo) so go to that...after a certain number of runs you get a mug and then a shirt...can't remember the number. http://www.nogrunclub.com

[Edited on August 7, 2009 at 5:20 PM. Reason : check it!]

^^ On Tuesday's it is Stimulus Tuesday and you can get a drink for $1 and a small popcorn for $1. So you get movie, popcorn, and a soda for $3.50. What a deal!

The Goat on Sunday nights--$1 Mystery Beers.
Bring quarters for games.

Monday nights at Flying Saucer for Pint Night $2.75 most pints--lots of selection

Mission Valley isn't that expensive of a movie theatre--like $5 w/ student ID? They sell beer. It isn't as ghetto as Blue Ridge and you can get a free popcorn coupon in the Dollar Saver (at the Wolf Mart, dorms, etc.) You can also get a free popcorn with a Peak Fitness card--counter intuitive I know to work out and then eat popcorn. However, since Peak Fitness is going bankrupt this might not still be the case.

PB's is free for females before 10 PM on Thursdays, $6 for males. They also have dollar nights--Tuesday & Saturday I think--for all drinks (tiny well drinks). PB's is gross though.

ALSO--in the most recent Dollar Saver there's a coupon for a free waffle at Waffle House.

Once it's not so hot, I would recommend going to walk around in Umstead Park (either entrance, though I prefer the Cary one)--or do a "thru hike." Eno River State Park is cool--look out for dead bodies.

Oh! Wednesday at Mitch's is half price martinis. They have a lot of really good ones (top shelf vodka). I recommend Dirty Girl Scout, Smoretini, Pineapple Upside Down Cake--really you can't go wrong with any of them.

There's always a free show at Tir Na Nog on Thursday nights. It's sponsored by WKNC so you're always going to get some quality local music, not cover bands or other lame shit. Granted, some weeks are better than others, but it's always at least decent.

at sushi blues on tuesday nights (after 10) and thursday nights (after 11) you can get half priced sushi. granted you have to get there, put your name on a list and wait for at least an hour. it's really packed particularly on thursday nights!!

sushi thai (better quality than sushi blues) serves $1 rolls nightly, but it's like like 2-3 pieces of sushi--still a good deal though.

just don't bother saving money and go eat sushi at either waraji or sono (on fayettville street). those are the best sushi restaurants i know of in the area.

I wish there was a RuSans up here, they have it at home (Charlotte) and it's $8.95 all you can eat sushi. Anyone ever been there?

quite a few places advertise free/cheap events in the independent

some of the restaurants on glenwood near pleasant valley have fairly frequent free events (like taverna agora and new world coffee)

^^I LOVE RU SANS! Park Street FTW!

When we went there, we were doing LOTS of saki bombs and they had us come up to the bar and do them with the whole place chanting. It was lots of fun.

Sushi was great too. If you sit at the bar, you get a free mini cucumber salad but not if you sit at the tables.

I am sorry you got no salad... we did when we went. I am actually from near Salisbury and I have a friend I was visiting in Harrisburg. Are you familiar with the burg?

Mission Valley is 6.25 with student I'd and they do still give popcorn with a Peak Fitness card.

haha these were all things i did when i first turned 21, and if you are over the age of 25 should not be doing except maybe sushi blues.

and when i did this they were all cheaper pbs was free before 11 for everyone. then eventually it changed to girls only. and guys and everyone after 11 5$. then girls before 11 3$ and guys 6$ and unless they changed it in the last 2-3 months its still the last one. because they have never been open before 10 except for a select few of us

and pint night at the saucer i thought use to be 2.25 but maybe it was just 2.50

It's pretty cool sometimes. I like the galleries on Glenwood more than the ones closer to the heart of downtown. I've been to some that had DJ's and sofas for more of a house party vibe. Always tons of free wine and sometimes you can score some beers. No shortage of cute girls, although most are the starving artist type so you know they aren't trying to split the bill if you take them anywhere decent.

You can look at the flight schedules to know when's the best time to see arrivals/departures. Its a nice overlook, but you really only have a view of one of the runways.
