I can name Bill Moyers as a press secretary for LBJ. I don't know how effective he was, per se, but I know he has since recanted some of the stuff he said and defended LBJ for, like expanding the war in Vietnam.



oh yeah, and as much as I didn't like his policies, or the ones he was defending from Bush, Tony Snow was a machine as a press secretary. That guy made the rest of the modern secretaries look like chumps, and more importantly (for the WH propaganda machine, that is), he made the press look like chumps. He could turn any question, no matter how legitimate or fact-based or innocent, around on the reporter, making them look like a pinko, flag-waving commie

Well for one thing, the press sec, if they are doing their job, isn't asserting their own opinions into anything but rather communicating the message given to them by the administration.

So an effective press sec would be one where you don't remember THEM, but WHAT they said. For Obama's sake I hope Gibbs is speaking for HIMSELF and not for the president.

^Um. Well let's see....the only ones I could have even SEEN FOR MYSELF according to your requirements are Jody Powell, James Brady, Larry Speakes and Marlin Fitzwater. Nope, don't remember them or their effectiveness but if I DID it would be because someone, somewhere along the line TOLD ME because no, as a 12 or 13 year old I didn't pay much attention to politics.

However, POST Clinton, Ari Fleischer, Scott McClellan, Tony Snow, Dana Perino and Robert Gibbs have filled the job and as far as I CAN RECALL (like I said in my first post) GIBBS IS THE WORST OF THEM.

There is such a thing as support staff...those that are there to SUPPORT the administration in effectively getting their messages and information out, without injecting in their own personal opinions and beliefs.

Clearly you don't get this...so keep yelling and bolding as this will most certainly get YOUR point across more effectively.
