So the G35 and truck are about to be gone...I'm looking at getting an old man car. My commute sucks ass and I want active cruise control and auto. I was looking at Porsche 911's forever, but the cost of ownership and using it as my primary car for commute just didn't make sense. I wanted a 997, but the 05s haven't come down in price near enough yet.

After searching long and hard, I think this will be the best bang for the buck. I drive 70 miles a day. The only other car I would consider for this kinda commute would be a Lexus GS, but they are boring.

Anybody else have any suggestions?

Audi A3. Smaller car that's better on gas mileage (since you'll be commuting 70 miles/day). You can load it up with all the luxury options available on any other Audi. If you don't want AWD (for the mileage dink) you don't have to. Available with 2.0 turbo inline 4 or 3.2 V6. Manual, automatic, or dual clutch transmissions offered I believe.

As people become more concerned with gas mileage look for more smaller cars to become luxurious and get all the features of the larger models.

And out of curiousity, why do you consider the GS boring but not the M35?

I dunno why people slam hatchbacks. Fuck, I would have considered a Mazdaspeed 3 for my last purchase if it had AWD. Fuck some FWD with 280lb-ft of torque

I think adaptive cruise control can be had on the G37, FX, and the M

The new M is going to shown today

I second TKE-Teg's suggestions. A3 2.0T would be much better on Gas, Passat CC is really slick-looking (though not sure about the adaptive cruise), and I don't know what makes the M35 any less boring than the GS350.

Also as mentioned above, how about a G37?

The adaptive cruise is a must for next car. I'm not too concerned about gas mileage, as long as it sticks around 23-25 mpg on the interstate. I'm buying a used one, probably 2-3 years old and paying cash so no payments. I can't think of any other car with that cruise that I'd want.

I've got a 07 G35 Sport Sedan (new body style) and I want something a little bigger. I considered a G37, but I'd really like to avoid payments and I want something different. Plus every now and then I need to fit 4 adults and the G isn't cutting it. I also had the dreaded synchro problems in it and the warranty just expired.

I'm looking at M35 with the sport and technology/premium package. Every Lexus I've ever driven just seems too soft. My girlfriend got a loner GS350 and it was quick, it just didn't float my boat, sorta. I don't know, can't put my finger on it.

Louis Lane drove an A3 in Superman. My mom has a Passat. Finally, I want real RWD.

M35 with sport package.

I will warn you. The M35 never got the HR engine. The 07 G35 u have, has the VQ35HR engine. HR meaning high rev. 306hp. The M35 has the VQ35DE (same engine as old body style G35) 280hp. Even with 280hp the M35 is still faster than the Acura RL 300hp, but a GS350 should walk a M35, and G35 you have will smoke a M35.

Ive driven all these cars. The two engines do feel the same up until 5500rpm. The HR engine comes alive and tach out to 7600rpm. The M35 sport is still a great car and handles damn good with the sports package. You might want to test drive the M35S and the M45S.

(I don't either, but he seems to need it)

I believe he drives 35 miles each way.

Active cruise control seems like a really nice feature for anyone who regularly uses the interstate system in my opinion. I'd certainly enjoy an upgrade from the extremely basic cruise control system in my car. Mine also punches the throttle open instead of smoothly rolling on it, so it's worthless for anything but maintaining a given speed. You have to disengage it for any kind of smooth acceleration or "deceleration" (Which, of course, is still an acceleration).

I don't have lot of experience with older S2000 CC, but my DBW car has a pretty smooth cruise control system (IMO).

getting an m35 for a communiting car is stupid. I obviously like them - but the deterioration on the car will severely impact the asset value of the car. You don't want to buy a $50k (?) car to put a load of miles on it....they may not be as cool, but definetly a cruiser type car would be an accord or camry with all the options...but axe the m35 commute idea.
