Wasn't he offered a plea deal a while back to do 3 months but he turned it down?
If the guy had shot himself in the leg at his home with a weapon he legally owned he just would have gone to the hospital and people would say what a dumbass he was, but that's not what happened. I have no problem with people legally carrying concealed weapons, but I think people who do so illegally should face very harsh penalties, especially if you happen to discharge said weapon in a crowded building regardless of where the bullet ends up.

I can see them dragging Plax down the hall now, "No not Sing Sing!"
I think 2 years is a little ridiculous for shooting yourself, but he had a few screw ups in a row and the DA made it known he was gonna push for serious jail time, so I guess it's not that big of a surprise. 8/20/2009 11:30:14 AM |

Is his career over ?
32 now, 34 in two years...receivers can play into their mid to late thirties, especially ones with size.
Plus two years of no wear and tear might let him play longer.

shit ain't right when Stallworth got 3 weeks in jail, yet Vick and Burress have to go through real jail time.
I'm not saying Plax should have gotten off lightly, but Stallworth should be doing 2 years as well. He killed an innocent human being for crying out loud. Plax just shot himself with an unregistered gun. 8/20/2009 12:05:01 PM |

Although Plax and Vick got longed dick by the law, Stallworth benefited from the victims family not wanting to pursuit the case out longer. The victim's family in the Stallworth case wanted it done and over with swiftly, and that played a large role in the disposition of the case.

It just goes to show how arbitrarily run judicial system is. It comes down to the fact that the prosecutor is trying to make an example out of Plaxico, which he's done a hell of a job in my opinion. I'm never going to carry and unlicensed gun in NYC. 8/20/2009 1:39:03 PM |

I think it's stupid because it's a waste of money and time. He's not a dangerous criminal, if somebody's about to bring a gun but they're like "oh shit, remember what happened to plax?" then they're a fucking idiot anyways and will still probably do it. It would make a lot more sense for him to do a little time, then do a whole shit ton of community service, talk to kids, shit like that. 8/20/2009 1:43:09 PM |

Stallworth also cooperated with the Police and legal system. He accepted his guilt from the get-go and was remorseful without having been told by his advisors. He did everything the right way, and didn't try to lie and get out of it. Vick and Plaxico tried to skirt the system, and as a result, they got the exact opposite. Stallworth manned up and got treated fairly because of it. 8/20/2009 1:49:06 PM |

I've heard a few legal analysts saying Stallworth wouldn't have gotten any prison time had they went to trial, which played into the plea deal being light on jail time b/c the DA wanted to offer him something he'd accept.
Basically the dude ran out in front of him, and it was highly probable he would have hit him anyway so the DA had virtually no chance to prove alcohol was a factor. 8/20/2009 2:03:21 PM |

Ok, say Donte was not drinking, no alcohol, but still on the same route at the same time. Guy runs out in front of a sober guys car. Guy still would have died.
No one is saying that Drink & Driv is right; rather they are saying that it was not the proximate cause of hitting the guy. In other words, the guy actually ran into & hit the car. Only problem is that the car is alot more durable than the guy.
But please remember, drinking and driving is wrong.

I never heard about this "video", has anyone seen it, or have a link to an article mentioning it?
I did see Stallworth give an interview where he said that he honked at the guy AND flashed his head lights. If you have time to honk and flash your lights you should have time to apply the brakess or swerve to avoid the dude.
Stallworth should be in prison for a lot longer. He killed a living person, fuck him. 8/20/2009 6:37:09 PM |

Well the family's perspective was that the guy is going to remain dead no matter what, might as well get some serious cash money out of the deal instead of something less tangible like knowing the guy who did it is behind bars 8/20/2009 6:44:58 PM |

Maybe he saw him start to walk across the street and honked his horns and flashed his lights. Then the guy continued to run/walk across the street right into the path of the vehicle. Maybe there were other cars in oncoming lames.
You have no idea what happened. What was determined in court was that the guy probably would have got hit whether or not Stallworth was drinking. But he was drinking, so he got punished accordingly. Stallworth also stopped at the scene and notified the authorities. He didn't run from the cops or lie like Buress or Vick. He showed remorse from the get-go and basically went into a depression after the incident.
Although vehicular manslaughter from driving while impaired is seen legally as an intentional crime...it's not the same intent that dogfighting and knowingly taking a loaded gun into a late night club are. Stallworth did everything right after the incident (and not because he had to to "save face")...and the other two did everything wrong.
I'm not a fan of drunk driving at all...but I have no problem with Stallworth getting less punishment than Vick and Buress.8/21/2009 2:54:43 AM |
