(I trust the garage more than tech talk)
It has worked fine all summer... it's a self propelled push mower. The color is red. When I try to start the sumbitch up, the engine "turns over" exactly 3 times after I pull the thing, but nothing happens... doesn't sound like it has started.
What are some things that might be wrong with it? 8/22/2009 11:49:37 AM |

electric start or pull start?
sounds like your spark plug may be out...get a new one, they are like <$1 and see what that does, otherwise its prolly your fuel system which is a lot harder to diagnose.
change the plug first then try again 8/22/2009 11:52:27 AM |

rather than start a new thread (and because i haven't googled)...my mower started randomly backfiring the last time i used it...only twice, actually, both times when i started it up (though not until after it had been running a while)
6.75hp craftsman push mower, pull start...i changed the oil, replaced the spark plug, and replaced the air filter just before i used it the last time 8/24/2009 2:33:40 PM |

could be bad fuel or the fact that its running off all the excess stuff that you placed in it...ala the new oil and plug
my best idea is to run it again, let it run for a little while and work its own kinks out...mowers are fairly easy little engines and with the right equipment shouldnt be a problem
sounds like something in the fuel system to me though. 8/26/2009 2:18:55 PM |

^^^ your valves are worn into the seat reducing the lash on the lifters and causing them to leak by slightly
