Randomly the (Overhead Door) garage door opens and closes very slowly. I just greased the screw drive, so that's out.

Starting capacitor dying? The forums say that the poor performance should happen all the time?

Any other suggestions of things to check?

I'll see where the thing is and use a multi-meter on it after work.

the sad thing is that it's only 3 years old.

nothing is binding as far a i can tell. i lubed it a few days ago and checked the recommended spots.

Unhook it from the motor. You should be able to lift it with one hand.

correct. and you should be able to lift it half way open and the door should hold it's position without falling if you were to let go of it. if it doesn't your spring tensioners need adjusting. do not try to do this yourself if you've never done it before. those things can kill you. i know a firefighter who can do this and it will save you some money.

Yup. My dad had to have his finger sewn back on after trying to adjust his and it slipped on him.

^^true. and he also said randomly. i guess i need to read better next time. well, my suggestion is one thing to check. however, it sounds like he'll be installing a new opener. not a bad job. i did mine about 3 months ago. it's about an hour job.
