Anyone know why investors won't sign non-disclosures? Just got off the phone with one who was interested, but wouldn't sign a mdna, so I told him I wouldn't submit. He argued with me for a while and said it was standard, can anyone comment?
Additionally, does anyone have advice/experience with short-term, low-capital investments? I don't want a bank loan and my friends/family don't have this kind of cash (about 9-10K). 8/24/2009 4:40:09 PM |

Really? That strikes me as very odd. I've been working on getting funding for a web app I'm banging out and I haven't caught any flack about the NDA. 8/24/2009 7:01:49 PM |

You could possibly get a line of credit extended if you don't mind paying whatever the prime cc rate is. Let me know if that's an angle you're trying to pursue and I'll forward this to a buddy of mine. 8/24/2009 7:06:05 PM |

If you aren't willing to invest in yourself, why would anyone else? 10-20k you should be able to talk to a bank for a business loan, depending on your current situation.
Hell, you probably just get a couple of credit cards with 0% intro offers that will be more than 10k in credit.

krs3g: How did you find your investors? The only ones I've found have been local and belong to the same investment group (which has a loose agreement for its angels to not sign nda's). 8/25/2009 6:05:22 PM |

I made some solid connections attending networking events. I go to search engine marketing/search engine optimization meetups 1x-2x a month and that attracts people from a wide variety of backgrounds. VCs, software engineers, etc. I'm basically in the process of trying to get a patent, defending my concept against similar technologies and all that jazz.
I'm a pretty big advocate of meetups in general, just as a tool to further my career and meet other professionals in the area. I've definitely landed ~20 freelance projects in the time I've been going, not by attempting to sell myself or my services but just but contributing to the discussion and helping the attendants solve there SEM challenges. 8/26/2009 12:09:05 PM |
