Poll: Either GOP challenger could topple Harry Reid Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009
Quote : | "WASHINGTON -- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid famously ignores polls, but he might be paying attention to this one.
Results released today show not only does Reid remain unpopular in Nevada, he would be clobbered in next fall’s election by either of two potential Republican challengers." |

Honestly, it's not surprising. Nevada is a red-leaning state, and Harry Reid is going to be the one who Independents, as well as conservative Democrats, see as a main part of whatever problem that they associate with Washington right now.
If Pelosi wasn't in such a liberal state herself, you'd most likely see the same numbers with her.
Since Obama has come in, Reid hasn't been that much of a leader in the Congress, letting Pelosi pave the way. He needs to figure out how to lead again if he expects for his poll numbers to improve. 8/26/2009 9:42:53 AM |

I know that's a hard concept for you to understand. You know, that someone of one political party doesn't automatically and feverishly defend a politician of the same party, no matter how shitty, corrupt, or ineffective they are. 8/26/2009 9:50:20 AM |

i don't like reid. but at least pelosi gets her votes most of the time. but senate majority leader is a tougher assignment than speaker. it'd be soooo much better if he'd just make the republicans actually stand up and filibuster. something tells me they'd threaten it a lot less if that were the case. 8/26/2009 9:53:40 AM |

Look, I swear to you on all that is good I am setting aside politics and ideology for this statement:
I do not like Reid as a person or his policies. I do not like Pelosi as a person or her policies. I find Joe Biden entertaining, but I disagree with his policies and I think he is a doofus and a shortcut taker. I can't help but like Obama, but I disagree with his policies and worldview. I also think that Obama will say or do anything that he finds to be politically expedient. 8/26/2009 10:35:58 AM |

Reid hasn't been in a strong political position for a long time. Even in 2008, there were calls for replacing him as Senate Majority Leader with someone else. I sympathize for him; trying to rally votes in the Senate is like herding cats, but he's not the strongest of leaders in the Democratic Party. 8/26/2009 10:41:43 AM |

Aug. 30, 2009 SHERMAN FREDERICK: Enough is enough, Harry
Stop the childish bullying
Quote : | "This newspaper traces its roots to before Las Vegas was Las Vegas.
We've seen cattle ranches give way to railroads. We chronicled the construction of Hoover Dam. We reported on the first day of legalized gambling. The first hospital. The first school. The first church. We survived the mob, Howard Hughes, the Great Depression, several recessions, two world wars, dozens of news competitors and any number of two-bit politicians who couldn't stand scrutiny, much less criticism.
We're still here doing what we do for the people of Las Vegas and Nevada. So, let me assure you, if we weathered all of that, we can damn sure outlast the bully threats of Sen. Harry Reid.
On Wednesday, before he addressed a Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce luncheon, Reid joined the chamber's board members for a meet-'n'-greet and a photo. One of the last in line was the Review-Journal's director of advertising, Bob Brown, a hard-working Nevadan who toils every day on behalf of advertisers. He has nothing to do with news coverage or the opinion pages of the Review-Journal.
Yet, as Bob shook hands with our senior U.S. senator in what should have been nothing but a gracious business setting, Reid said: 'I hope you go out of business.'
Later, in his public speech, Reid said he wanted to let everyone know that he wants the Review-Journal to continue selling advertising because the Las Vegas Sun is delivered inside the Review-Journal.
Such behavior cannot go unchallenged.
You could call Reid's remark ugly and be right. It certainly was boorish. Asinine? That goes without saying.
But to fully capture the magnitude of Reid's remark (and to stop him from doing the same thing to others) it must be called what it was -- a full-on threat perpetrated by a bully who has forgotten that he was elected to office to protect Nevadans, not sound like he's shaking them down.
No citizen should expect this kind of behavior from a U.S. senator. It is certainly not becoming of a man who is the majority leader in the U.S. Senate. And it absolutely is not what anyone would expect from a man who now asks Nevadans to send him back to the Senate for a fifth term.
If he thinks he can push the state's largest newspaper around by exacting some kind of economic punishment in retaliation for not seeing eye to eye with him on matters of politics, I can only imagine how he pressures businesses and individuals who don't have the wherewithal of the Review-Journal.
For the sake of all who live and work in Nevada, we can't let this bully behavior pass without calling out Sen. Reid. If he'll try it with the Review-Journal, you can bet that he's tried it with others. So today, we serve notice on Sen. Reid that this creepy tactic will not be tolerated.
We won't allow you to bully us. And if you try it with anyone else, count on going through us first.
That's a promise, not a threat.
And it's a promise to our readers, not to you, Sen. Reid." |

Senate 2010: Most endangered seats 10/9/09
Quote : | "The only thing stopping Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid from being rated as the most vulnerable Democratic senator is the quality of his opposition. Republicans struggled for months to come up with a top-tier challenger to Reid, despite his anemic ratings in the polls. Now the GOP has at least three prospective challengers — former state Republican Party Chairwoman Sue Lowden, state Sen. Mark Amodei and businessman Danny Tarkanian — but none of them has ever run a race quite like this or against a smash-mouth opponent quite like Reid. If the GOP nominee turns out to be equal to the task, the general election may end up resembling the epic 2004 South Dakota battle between then-Majority Leader Tom Daschle and Republican John Thune, fueled by national money and contingent on whether the challenger can convince voters that Reid’s power hasn’t translated into results for Nevada — which is suffering from high unemployment and foreclosure rates." |

Possible Senate opponent to Reid worth millions Last updated December 18, 2009
Quote : | "WASHINGTON -- A potential challenger of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is disclosing stock holdings valued at more than $50 million, revealing that she has serious resources available for a political campaign.
Sue Lowden is one of the favorites among nearly a dozen Republicans in Nevada with hopes of taking on Reid, D-Nev. The race promises to be one of the most closely watched campaigns of 2010.
The Senate has many millionaires within its ranks, but Lowden's holdings would certainly put her near the top." |

NEVADA U.S. SENATE POLL: Reid hits new low in poll Rating is worst in R-J's surveys for 2010 election Jan. 09, 2010
Quote : | "More than half of Nevadans are unhappy with Sen. Harry Reid, according to a new poll commissioned by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. It's the worst 'unfavorable' rating he's received in the newspaper's surveys for this year's election, and it comes amid quiet speculation -- or perhaps wishful thinking by his opponents -- that it's time for the Nevada Democrat to retire rather than lose re-election." |
Quote : | "'I have a theory that one of the reasons Reid's behaving the way he's behaving is he's going to bail out,' [Brad] Coker [Mason-Dixon pollster] said. 'He's trying to get everything he can get done done. I think he's going to spend the next year trying to get anything and everything through regardless of the consequences.'" |

Anarchism is a political philosophy encompassing theories and attitudes which consider the state to be unnecessary, harmful, or otherwise undesirable, and favor instead a stateless society or anarchy.[1][2][3][4][5][6] Individual anarchists may have additional criteria for what they conceive to be anarchism, and there is often broad disagreement concerning these broader conceptions. According to The Oxford Companion to Philosophy, "there is no single defining position that all anarchists hold, and those considered anarchists at best share a certain family resemblance."[7]

Harry Reid would benefit tremendously by just letting the Sharron "Obtuse" Angle continue to implode. If he doesn't run ads showing her straight up stupidity and flip-flopping on her positions then he doesn't deserve to be senator. This should be an overhead winner for him.

Why Harry Reid can't seem to put Sharron Angle in the rearview mirror
Quote : | "The latest non-good news for Reid came with today’s release of a Mason-Dixon Polling survey that shows he has a statistically insignificant lead of 46 to 44 percent over Angle. That’s a tie because the difference between the two is within the poll’s sampling error margin of plus or minus 4 percent.
Two weeks ago a similar Mason-Dixon poll showed Reid at 43 percent and Angle at 42 percent. That means in recent days the number of undecided voters has shrunk (both candidate’s numbers jumped slightly) but those voters are not breaking for Reid. Any political pro would tell you that’s bad news for an incumbent.
Another warning sign is Reid’s unfavorable rating. A slight majority of those surveyed in the new poll – 51 percent – said they had unfavorable feelings toward the man who helped push President Obama’s health-care plan through the Senate.
Similarly, 51 percent of respondents said they felt Reid’s seniority in the Senate was not too important to give up. That’s bad for Reid, too, considering that he has been running ads in Nevada that feature the catch phrase, “No one can do more."" |

Reid's DREAM Rider Sept. 15, 2010
Quote : | "Politics: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has hit a new low by slipping an amnesty plan for illegal immigrants into a defense funding bill. In effect, he's holding U.S. troops hostage to advance his own political career.
Longtime members of the Senate Armed Services Committee are shuddering at the way the defense budget has become a Christmas tree for political ornaments. Since last year, Democrats have used appropriations for U.S. troops in Afghanistan to attach riders that couldn't otherwise pass muster.
Now Reid has hung the ugliest ornament of them all — the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act — and has scheduled a vote on it next week.
'This is an all-time low for me being in the Senate, and that's saying something,' committee member Lindsay Graham told Foreign Policy magazine. 'The one area that's been kept off limits from partisan politics has been the defense of our nation. To say that you're going to bring up a defense bill and put the DREAM Act on it ... to me is very offensive.'" |

Feminist group demands Reid apologize for calling Gillibrand 'hottest' senator Sept. 23, 2010
Quote : | "If the women at the feminist group The New Agenda do not hear an apology soon from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for his 'sexist' comment, he will be facing more than just a few frowning fems.
At a New York fundraiser hosted by Mayor Michael Bloomberg earlier this week, Reid praised New York Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand for being the 'hottest member' in the Senate.
When Politico asked Reid's office for a clarification, spokesman Jim Manley said, 'What can I say, she made The Hill's 'Most Beautiful' list. Of course, he also went on to praise her skill and tenacity and described her as an effective member of the New York delegation as well.'
Amy Siskind, president and co-founder of The New Agenda, told The Daily Caller that if Reid does not promptly voice regret, she and her group will be building a coalition against the senator and demanding a mea culpa." |

Just so you know, I don't have my hackles all up about this. I'm simply passing it along and noting well that if it had been a Republican who made similar comments, we would undoubtedly have heard howls of outrage--mostly feigned, to be sure--from the liberal media and probably even some here.
BTW, Reid also referred to Delaware's Democratic candidate for Senate, Chris Coons, as his 'pet.'
