http://www.reedmantollsubaru.com/2011-subaru-impreza-coupe.htm

Quote :
"The Subaru Impreza is a compact car that was first introduced by Subaru in 1993. "Impreza" is a coined word, deriving from an originally Italian word, impresa, meaning a feat or achievement. Subaru will roll out the Impreza coupé for the 2011 model year. Joining the recently launched hatch-back model, it will allow the Japanese company to tackle the BMW 3-Series Coupé and Nissan 350Z head-on, as well as reach out to new customers. Subaru hasn't sold a two door Impreza since the late 1990s, a coupe was sold in most countries as a limited edition version of the potent STI model but it was eventually phased with the introduction of the MY01 Impreza earlier this decade. The car has been developed as part of a joint venture with Toyota, who holds an 8 percent stake in Subaru. The project will also spawn a long-awaited successor to the Nineties Celica. The compact rear-wheel Subaru coupe is envisioned to offer a new 'fun to drive' experience based on an all-new vehicle platform

2011 Coupe Power

Power will come from a choice of two engines, both employing the flat-four boxer layout for which Subaru is famous. Subaru chose to continue their longstanding use of the boxer engine in the Impreza Coupe; according to Subaru, their configuration of the engine inline with the transmission minimizes body roll due to the l ower center of gravity compared with offset engines in most other vehicles. The boxer design provides perfect vibration mitigation due to the fact that the movement of each piston is exactly countered by the corresponding piston in the opposing cylinder bank, eliminating the need for a counter-rotating weighted crankshaft (harmonic balancer). Torque steer is also reduced with this type of powertrain layout since the front drive shafts are of equal length. There's a normally aspirated 2.0-litre unit giving around 180bhp, or a high-performance 2.5-litre turbo powerplant borrowed from the range-topping five-door STi. The latter will deliver in the region of 300hp. There is a chance that the AWD system will be dropped for entry level models in favor of a lightweight, more affordable rear-drive setup, while the upper level trims will continue to get AWD. A 300-hp version equipped with the turbocharged 2.5-liter flat-four is also destined for production. New suspension tuning on the 2011 Impreza Coupe will have higher-rate springs, larger-diameter stabilizer bars and dedicated damping force tuning for sharper handling response.

Impreza Coupe Design
The Impreza Coupé takes styling cues from the five-door model, but it will feature certain design elements to make it stand out from the crowd and will get a rakish rear end. That gives it a chunky yet athletic appearance, it also features a much lower slung roof line thanks to the deleted rear doors, a new front bumper, swept back headlamps bulging fender flares, and a more aggressive approach on the current Impreza front end. The Impreza Coupe will get a hatch similar to that found on the WRX/STI. Dual tailpipes, body-colored door handles and mirrors, power mirrors and rear lip spoiler are standard.

Cabin Features
The interior of the coupe will likely come with standard air conditioning, standard cruise control, standard power windows and locks, and automatic climate control. An optional touch-screen navigation system with Bluetooth will be available. The interior will likely be sporty considering the type of vehicle it is, and will be offered in a range of trims, from a basic verison to a more luxurious feeling cabin.

Impreza Coupe Safety Features
All 2011 Impreza Coupes will include an impressive array of safety features. These include standard side impact and side-curtain airbags, standard electronic stability system with traction control, standard antilock brakes with brake-force distribution and brake assist, and standard daytime running lamps.

The latest reports say that the Japanese manufacturer will begin the production of a Subaru Impreza coupe in 2010. The new car, along with its Toyota sibling that is expected to be made, will be made at a new Subaru factory in Gunma, Japan. The new model will enter the market as a rival for the Nissan 350Z and the BMW 3-Series Coupe"

Wtf...? Surely they meant 370Z... >_>

[OLD] and that's been debunked as a shooped pic of the 08 STI.

Too many rumors, but here are more 'concept' pics of what it may look like...

It's a shame that Subaru and Toyota make nothing but ugly cars these days

^at one time i would've rather cut myself than be seen in the '08 sti...

then one day i got a weird itch. then the itch turned into curiosity. then that curiosity turned into my growing up or something. i now see it as the ultimate practicality meets performance vehicle. maybe it has something to do with the fact i'm really into outdoor sports, but i love the way the hatch looks now. i would much rather have the sti over it's main counterpart (evo x), even if it means sacrificing some performance.

I'd agree with that statement...if it was the exact opposite.

Hideous comes to mind. The last gen looks way better, and is faster. I fail to see any benefit to the new one

Last gen EVO and STi were quicker than current gen models, respectively. This gen they focused on handling, not 0-60 times. Every test I have read about says they handle better. Who knows...!

its a nice aggressive hatch.

turbo cars can be faster in a matter of minutes.

I mean I can see why people wouldnt like it. It's not a bad wagon. Its better then the mazda speed 3 (which i also like).

I would love the new STi if I didn't already have an Evo IX. But I have a thing for hatch backs.

i think hot hatches are kinda cool, too.

but the Evo IX is the high water mark for this genre of cars, in my opinion. The X might turn fractionally quicker lap times in certain instances, but I'd way rather have a IX. The X is inferior in every way, in my opinion, other than the electronics like AYC giving it an advantage over the US market IX.

Is it really going to go head-on with the 350z? Because I was wondering if I should spend $11k on a used car or $30k on a new car that is just as good.

Quote :
"It's fair to say that Subaru has enjoyed a run of strong product in recent years, as well as an exponential credibility increase in enthusiast's eyes, essentially ever since the automaker began shipping over the Impreza WRX back in 2001. Those considerable achievements aside, it's likewise fair to say that Subaru has yet to well-and-truly crack the aesthetics portion of the modern carbuilding equation, having produced some daring (if ungainly) entries like the origina B9 Tribeca and a series of aggressive yet unpretty Impreza variants.

[image]http://jalopnik.com/assets/images/gallery/12/2009/05/medium_3568244474_cb672eca71_o.jpg[image]

And while we applaud originality, we think the folks at Fuji Heavy Industries could use a consistent design force, a man (or woman) with a mission that's out in the public eye as something of a known quantity. Think: General Motors' Ed Welburn, former Mazda-turned-Tesla wunderkind Franz von Holzhausen, former BMW lightning rod Chris Bangle, etc.

All of this is not to say that the man behind the WRX STI rally car renderings shown here has the answers, but we know one thing: When passing these images around Autoblog's (virtual) offices, we all couldn't help but say something to the effect of: "Oooooh, damn that's hot!" – a phrase we can't remember associating with Subaru, much as we love driving the vehicles themselves. In any case, these images come courtesy of one Lars Martensson (apparently better known on the interwebs by his handle 'GRID)', a man who spends his days crafting 3D renderings for videogames (Rallisport Challenge 2 for xBox, Battlefield 2 for PC).

To us, this Swede has a handle on what the STI needs to be: Squat, mean, and purposeful. Okay, so perhaps the cut-down greenhouse wouldn't leave much room for taller folks (much less a helmet), but if one of these were parked in our driveway, well... we'd happily squat a little. "

My thoughts exactly. I don't like that side profile nearly as much. A crisper transition from the roof line to the windshield to the hood would make if the fucking bomb. Then it would look sort of wagon-ish!

That it's a pretty great second act. The engine is severely underrated (as far as naturally aspirated engines go). It's rated at 228 flywheel hp but more likely it's in the 240-245 range.

I've got my eye on them, but I'm waiting for the Performance Package to come out.

^^^ Stock vs stock, supposedly the 86 has a little sportier suspension tuning.

If you're going to swap it out, that's obviously moot.
____________

Sold my FR-S. Owned it for 2.5 years, tracked it who knows how many days, sold it with bald tires for about 1/3 more than I paid for it.

(although I had to replace the clutch and an AC compressor, so that cut my profit in half.)
