So I decide just for shits and giggles to see what the hell is in Sea Foam, since I dumped a can in my fuel tank this afternoon.
I'll never buy this shit again, except maybe to fog my manifold, and then I think I'll use Amsoil's shit.
40-60% Pale Oil 25-35% Naphtha 10-20% Isopropyl Alcohol
The ratios vary between their Trans Tune and regular Sea Foam
I've been spending 7 bucks a pint for something I could make for about 12 to 15 bucks a gallon. Ain't that some shit? 8/28/2009 9:10:22 PM |

I figured there might be a trade secret ingredient in it at least.
Dude, the way we rant and rave on here about how good Sea Foam is? There's NOTHING special about it. Somebody mixed up a couple of common ingredients and claimed it did such a wonderful job dissolving carbon and gum deposits...maybe I should conduct my own study on how well this shit works. And then attempt to replicate the results...or improve on them. 8/28/2009 9:26:05 PM |

start making some, then! $4/pint sounds good
you could then sell a gallon for $32, leaving you a profit margin of 113% minimum (excluding your time value, of course)...still, not bad8/29/2009 9:04:31 AM |

Just because it is simple doesn't mean it doesn't do a damn good job. 8/29/2009 11:09:03 AM |

I've been running it through the bike's gas tank, one ounce per gallon, but I'm wondering whether getting rid of it would help drop my cylinder temperatures(I saw it hit 300F the other day). I'm already running pretty rich, 15W-40 oil. I guess the next step is to add an oil cooler.

^^^^yep. sea foam definitely works, simple or not. i can't count the number of vehicles i've cured of ticking lifters (especially 3.2/3.5 isuzus) and spark knock with it. it's great for getting varnished/gummed up carbs/fuel pumps working better too. pull the feed line off the pump and let it draw the stuff in from the bottle.
i'm also a big fan of gm's top end cleaner. dunno what it's comprised of. something very similar if not identical to sea foam i imagine. 8/29/2009 5:44:58 PM |

I've been meaning to try the TEC cleaner, and I've done some research on it. It's pretty different from Seafoam, and has an additional detergent that's called Techron.8/30/2009 9:41:33 AM |
