Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwTJ7mCcFoY
I just finished reading the graphic novel, it was pretty good. I can already tell they've made changes for the movie. 9/3/2009 8:47:17 PM |

I'm confused... because I love the sci-fi and bruce willis is in it which is a definite plus
but I haven't heard ANYTHING about this movie... it pops out of nowhere, which makes me nervous 9/3/2009 8:48:31 PM |

the previews make this movie look horrible, seems like anyone could already guess all the "twists" they will use to shake things up.
could be wrong though 9/27/2009 7:09:08 PM |

*** spoiler ****
at the end why did he not abort the program, didn't they think the program would kill everyone or was it just the surrogates, if he knew it would just kill the surrogates then it makes sense but its also a crime

^ there were so many plot holes, but to address this one even more:
yeah, it was a crime to let it happen, but the way it all played out, with the surrogate he was using getting shot in the head, they could've just said that the SWAT team's timing was off and he didn't get a chance to stop them all from being destroyed before the shot was fired.
Although that opens up another can of worms - the techno nerd who was tied up knew who was operating the unit, and knew he had ample time to deactivate the virus.
Also, they made it out to be the ultimate end of surrogates everywhere, but they ignored the premise of surrogates that weren't in operation at the moment of infection - ones in for service (as foreshadowed by the girl with the wonky older loaner in the movie), ones on sales floors that hadn't been sold yet (shown when he went into the store), ones in the assembly plants, ones being charged because their owners worked different hours and were asleep, etc, etc, etc.
"OMG SURROGATES ARE DESTROYED FOREVER!"
"Well, not really. There were hundreds of thousands that weren't in operation and were unaffected. Also, we can just build new ones, since none of the actual manufacturing infrastructure was harmed in any way."
And chances are, for items of that nature, there would be insurance for them - just like cars.
Basically the whole premise of the movie is a joke. It's meant to be social commentary, about how we shouldn't let technology detract from our humanity, but the reality of the situation is that if our society had made positive leaps forward like that due to a sustainable technology that powerful to change the way we all lived, then there would be a mad rush to keep it around, regardless of circumstance.
But maybe i'm just jaded. 9/27/2009 11:00:29 PM |

So, how similar is this movie too the Matrix or Dark City? Cause it looks very similar in the trailer. 9/28/2009 12:37:58 AM |

^^I dont think the virus destroyed the surrogates, it destroyed the link or the system that the user/surrogates rely on. so in that case even new surrogates would be useless.
Plus what insurance company could actually pay out on a total disaster like this. None. Insurance companies never have the money to fix everything, just some. so yeah its like a katrina time 100. In these situation people wonder whether it is worth it to rebuild it at all. 9/28/2009 12:21:29 PM |

^^ riiight.
Systems like that don't just come down with one virus. Even if they did, they'd be replicated and repaired quickly. 9/28/2009 11:11:40 PM |
