Sorry if this has been covered in the past, I searched and found tons of xbox threads but they all had a generic title and i'm too lazy to look through 100 threads of guys asking about their MTU settings with resnet haha.

Here's my problem: I'm currently using someone's interent from another part of the barracks and I can't put holes in the wall so i'm using a wireless connection for the PC. I'd like to connect the xbox to the internet so I can use netflix to watch movies (don't care for online gaming). Is it possible to configure my pc to be used as a router/modem to get internet to my xbox via the wireless connection? I'd rather not buy the 100 dollar adapter for the xbox if I can get this to work out.

Open network connections, select the wireless card and the ethernet port, right click choose network bridge. Wait for that to finish and you should be good to go

I finally figured that much out on google.. but now it seems I have another problem.

Yesterday I had the 360 hooked up to the pc and was able to play music. Today after setting up the wireless connection all of a sudden the pc won't connect to the 360 anymore. I can still set up sharing rights for it in WMP but the network says no cable attached and the xbox says "network failed"

Ok - just to clarify: your current setup is as follows:

Wireless network -> PC
PC (ethernet/wireless bridge) -> XBox 360 via ethernet

Is this correct? And the bridged connection is still active on the PC, with network still working?

An alternative - albeit a little pricey - is to just get the wireless adapter for the 360. Then you don't have to go through the PC for your internet. Or, setup a second wireless router as a repeater, connect via wire to the 360 (and the PC) to the second router.

Currently the wireless is working but the pc is not connecting to the xbox which is confusing the shit out of me. What pisses me off is my little brother tried what i'm going to do and it works perfectly. Of course I have the luck of the simplest connection not working.

Ok - hm. I assume you've tested the physical connections - but just in case, check those. If you have another cable, try that too. Check that the connection is still bridged in Windows.

Have you tried the network settings on the XBox - system settings > Network? Check there.

Looking at this site from Microsoft, it seems like your best bet is still the wireless network adapter. Which, unfortunately, is kind of pricey - about $75.

Although, looking at it, setting up a wireless repeater + ethernet may end up being cheaper if you just find a cheap 802.11g router.

I realize there are free options that dont require any type of purchase, but you can get a wireless network adapter a lot cheaper than the $100 MS wants. If nothing else, the one for the original Xbox is half the price and exactly the same thing (just black). Ebay is your friend. Figured Id post that here for anyone that finds this thread and would prefer to do just that.

Problem solved. Xbox had a bad network card.

All you have to do to get it to work is bridge the wireless/wired connection and it's like magic.

Got it all working now. Thanks to best buy dropping the price on elites I got myself an elite with a 2 year warranty for 30 bucks

Took about 2 minutes to get it connected to xbox live using my pc. If you have a computer/laptop nearby I see no reason for anybody to ever buy a wireless adapter.

Glad to hear this solution worked for you. A little surprised that it ended up being the network card going bad, but I suppose it makes sense in the context of what you describe.

I was equally surprised. I was about 2 months away from my best buy warranty expiring. Since they dropped the price on the elite's I ended up getting an elite and a new 2 year warranty 30 bucks out the door
