Joe Wilson was attacked by the libs for calling out Obama and saying he lies, in reference to illegal immigrants obtaining free health care.
So, just for reference Id like to share a few items for all the holier than though liberals.

I honestly don't think any of that compares to what Wilson did, though I don't think his yelling at the President was in any way something he should be punished for. I do, however, think it'll get him kicked out of office during the next election. The people seem to be seeing to that.
While it was an example of bad decorum, the stupidest thing about this whole situation is that OBAMA WASN'T LYING. I'm sure he stretched the truth on several of his points or even outright lied, but the thing that got him yelled at wasn't even a lie. It's really hilarious. 9/13/2009 1:18:40 PM |

Obama WAS lying. there is a provision in the bill prohibiting illegals from getting the government plan, but the Democrats refused to put any provision to enforce it, allowing them to talk out of both sides of their mouths. they want to pay lip service to the issue so people won't get pissed off but they are allowing them to have access to Obamacare by default. 9/13/2009 1:24:14 PM |

First of all, other than the democrats *kind of* booing bush in that one clip, none of those are at all similar, because they are not a congressman standing up and angrily shouting at the president. Private citizens acting in this way does not, in any way, compare to a congressman acting that way in what is normally supposed to be a relatively respectful government activity. Now, the democrats booing bush is comparable but does not in any way display the lack of decorum that Wilson displayed by angrily shouting.
Obama states that the claim "that our reform efforts would insure illegal immigrants" is false. To say that is a lie because there's nothing to enforce it would mean that every single bill in existence that doesn't lay out enforcement provisions is useless, which is obviously untrue.
Also, he was being overly nice there. The claims mainly being circulated primarily center around the idea that the plan specifically says illegals will be given free healthcare. That, of course, IS completely false.

That's not true. They're concerned that there aren't provisions to keep the plan from going to undocumented immiagrants, who already have access to our hospitals through an open door policy. And that no one is willing to write it in (even without enforcement provisions) that explicitly say undocumented immigrants will not be covered.
But Wilson has already profited extensively from this himself. He's made near a million dollars since the incident (so has his opponent), but that doesn't mean his constituents won't still vote for him.
And sure he made a mistake, the man's already apologized for it twice. Now the dems are saying he needs to do it on the house floor or they'll "punish him." What kind of mess is this?

i do not think the race card should be pulled with everything relating to Obama
but in this case, it should. you really don't think a South Carolina senator - who fought to keep the Confederate flag on the SC flag - was somewhat racially motivated when he disrespected the president in a congressional hearing.
really? i mean, really?

whether I support it or not, I think general human reaction is common, and ought to be relatively tolerated--congressman or not. This is a VERY fickle, hot issue.
that said, it took me seeing an interview with Joe Wilson the other night to come to the realization that that dude is a fucking retard. dead serious, I don't see how anyone voted for him.
then i considered the geography.

there is a certain procedure and respect that is followed on the floor regardless of parties. the outburst broke that procedure and was rude. doesn't matter that he isn't king, when addressing congress there are certain rules for addressing the president (any president).

Prime Minister's Questions is a joke. They have laid out for them basically all answers to any and all possible questions that could be laid before them.
Also, it wouldn't work here; because while the Prime Minister if Head of Government he is still a member of the House of Commons. The President of the United States is both Head of State and Head of Government and functions outside the legislative branch.

^ It’s not entirely baseless…
Wilson worked for and revered Strom Thurmond for many years.
Not to mention that the statement that he became so outraged about has racial undertones to it too.
I’m sure if I or anyone else cared to dig deeper, there’d be more to find, but it’s irrelevant at this point. Obama or the left could never win anything by trying to fight all the racists, they just simply have to work around them. There are enough non-racist these days in the Republican party that it’s better to let them handle their own on those issues. 9/14/2009 1:24:27 AM |

arguably. But I'm not going to get my underoos in a wad when professional liars call each other out for lying.
The House of Representatives was always meant to be the more rowdy of the two chambers and I'd like it if the President was afraid (politically, not physically) every time he gave a speech in front of the House. 9/14/2009 1:35:52 PM |

But it wasn't a lie or a half-truth. Wilson is the one who was completely full of shit, or he just didn't read the bill(s):
Quote : | "SEC. 242. AFFORDABLE CREDIT ELIGIBLE INDIVIDUAL.
(a) DEFINITION. --
(1) IN GENERAL. -- For purposes of this division, the term ''affordable credit eligible individual'' means, subject to subsection (b), an individual who is lawfully present in a State in the United States " |
and just to be safe, they even put a second provision in there:
Quote : | "SEC. 246. NO FEDERAL PAYMENT FOR UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS.
Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States." |
This is the one thing I don't like about Obama. He's just too damn nice. Not only should he have demanded an apology, he should have waved this under Wilson's nose until he admitted he was completely wrong. The guy got off too easy for blurting out a completely asinine and baseless statement during a speech in front of a joint session of congress.9/14/2009 1:45:21 PM |

The argument they're making is "yes, the law specifically prevents illegal aliens from getting coverage, but there's nothing in the bill about enforcing that!!!11"
This allows them to continue to lie and say that illegal aliens will be covered under the bill.
In other news, miniature schnauzers aren't prevented from getting free healthcare either! Nothing in the bill *specifically* says they won't be covered.
Quote : | "Verification measures aren’t always effective either. A House Oversight Committee investigation “reviewed six state Medicaid programs in 2007 and concluded that verification rules had cost the federal government an additional $8.3 million. They caught exactly eight illegal immigrants.” The Government Accountability Office has found that such requirements caused eligible U.S. citizens to lose Medicaid coverage.
Additionally, the 1996 Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act already prohibits undocumented immigrants from being eligible for most public benefits, restricts the eligibility of legal immigrants, and codifies procedures for verifying eligibility." |
