whats the better plan, to add in an extra hard drive into my desktop or use a portable/extra one?

I don't think it really matters unless you want it to be portable.

Well.....I just had a *similar* internal conversation and decided that I need two external hard drives: One that's a small portable and one that stays at home as my backup drive. I believe I will be purchasing Western Digital ones and as soon as I figure out why the prices fluctuate so much even within the same seller on ebay then I'll go ahead and make said transaction. Hope my post helped. I aim to please.

For backups external, as they are less prone to failure (if its off when you arnt using it). An internal would be on as long as the computer is on, normally spinning and functioning, so it would get worn down.
