Think I might just try this out. Looks like they're pretty durable and cheap, just have to take your time and apply like 10 coats or so.

Anyone ever hear of this/try it?

Never tried rolling it, I've always sprayed my junk, even if I was only spraying Rustoleum thinned with acetone(very flammable, btw). Ag-supply sells tractor paint in dozens of colors, as well as the thinner and catalyst which gives a much tougher coating. I think that tractor paint thinner is just naptha, but I don't remember. In any case I've painted plenty of cars for less than $50...well that plus the cost of a respirator.

Me and my buddy did that to his golf cart back in high school and it turned out A LOT better then we thought it would. Just a lot of sanding and polishing. Cheap as hell though.

i actually just finished this last weekend. scuffed with 60 grit, hand sanded with 220 between coats. Its much more even than a rattle can job. This is after 4 coats, goal was to protect the sheet metal and get the truck one color until i have the time and money to do body work and a pro paint job.

Matt, don't tell me you're gonna roll the SuperDodge. Get me a better tent and I'll shoot it. It WILL turn out better than Eric's car. It was too hot for good flowout that day, I couldn't breathe through my mask, and I was sweatin' like a whore in church.

Bugs love the smell of paint. And my sweat created an assload of fisheyes. That and the water in the air line.

the paint job is really only good for about 5 years or so if left in the elements and not cared for the correct way. i did this to the hood of one of my cars one time and i could never get it glossy enough

Not exactly Dan. Skack I used regular rustoleum enamel from Home Depot sprayed through a gun from the clearance rack at Wal-Mart. I sanded through multiple layers of primer I had applied through the years, and some wicked tough layers of old ass paint. Then I primed it with the Rustoleum white clean metal primer and everything was looking good. THEN I thinned the paint exactly as I was informed by a internet thread touting the DIY $99 paint job... and when I went to adjust the gun the fucking screws either broke off or stripped out. The only adjustment I could make was to thin more at that point, and IF you thin too much and you are out of paint, well, you are screwed. SO I said fuck it, and sprayed it- runs, drips, sags, and all. The end result was what I wanted- the rust and old primer and shit was all gone and the car was primed and painted all one color. It hasn't really faded or pinked much at all in the past 3? 4? years and has not tried to rust again. However the reality of it was I should have saved the money I spent on paint and just bought some good acid etching primer- primed it, done the bodywork, and had it sprayed downtown for a few hundred bucks.

my dad and i have painted countless vehicles in the garage, a nice gun, air filter/dryer, and some plastic sheeting + ac filter + box fan + duct tape hung from the grage door rails makes a nice paint booth

al of them turned out professional, i would reccomend acrylic laquer for beginners though, its more forgiving, lay it on thick and you can sand out runs and drips, forget about clearcoat
