Gas is getting cheaper, so I figured I'd drive. It's a really boring drive, so I thought I'd see if any folks wanted to share a ride and split gas and stuff. I have any explorer, so plenty of room to haul stuff. I could also drop somebody off along I-95 if need be and then pick up on my way back....just trying to lower the cost and not be totally bored. I had a few hits when I was trying to go to Boone last year, so figured I'd give it a shot. It's the weekend of Fall Break, fyi, if you are still in school. Thanks! 9/20/2009 5:34:36 PM |

Allegiant Air had some low airfair from NC to Orlando ($30 or $40) one way. You might want to check out their website for details. I did this for spring break in 08. You gotta figure in a rental car though. 9/21/2009 10:55:21 PM |

Yeah, I've driven it before, it does suck, but I can't find any cheap plane tickets. I checked Allegiant Air, but maybe I'm doing it wrong?? The only flights out of NC I saw were from Wilmington and Greensboro. 9/22/2009 2:03:27 AM |

Yeah, I-95 through SC is mind-numbingly boring. Lots of cops too.
The drive actually gets kind of cool once you hit Jacksonville though. At least there's shit to look at. That said, Jacksonville traffic can be a beast, and the road curves all over the place. So beware. 9/22/2009 10:20:05 AM |

Depending on where you stay, you might be able to get away with the mass transit when you fly. 9/22/2009 11:55:46 AM |

Allegiant air is the way to go, but they usually only fly between Greensboro and Orlando on Mondays and Fridays. You also gotta book early early early in order to ensure you get the $30-40 tickets.
If you have to fly out of Raleigh, the next cheapest option is usually AirTran but those tickets are going to run you ~$115 each direction.

I've made it from Orlando to Raleigh in 7.5 hours. This is with optimal driving conditions and one five-minute pit stop/refuel. It's still hellacious by yourself. 9/23/2009 8:28:26 AM |

We drove to Kinston and flew out of there. You said it yourself, gas was cheap. So drive to Greensboro and hop on a plane 9/23/2009 10:10:06 AM |

Its like a 40 min flight versus a 10 hour drive. Well worth it to fly. 9/23/2009 10:41:24 AM |
