replaced one of at least two torn exhaust hangers on the miata. still had a rattle but no more banging. Got the car on stands and found a thoroughly rusted out head shield resting on the front crossmember so I ripped that off.

Cracked my head on the garage floor earlier in the day while working on it.

Completely filled the front tire of my harley with a bike pump because the air compressor was locked up.

That only took me 30 fucking minutes.

'86 toyota sr5 4x4

suspected head gasket failure

turns out, #2 spark plug was fouled

had about a quart of gas in the oil from where they kept driving it and the gas wasn't getting burned off

changed oil, filter, plugs and wires

drove it about 300 miles and posted it on CL

Got in my new Rancho shocks and just finished up the rear's, which were really easy. The fronts with the coil overs are going to be tougher I bet, might have to go to my buddies shop with the wall mounted coil press if the ones from autozone dont work.

Okay, I f*cking give up. In order to remove my oil pan I have to remove a plate that covers something else. And one of those tiny little bolts is stuck. Clearance is tight, PB Blaster isn't making a difference, and my 10 mm wrench is slipping over the head of the bolt.

How much should a shop charge to replace an oil pan? I've already got the part, I'm talking labor only.

Put a tube in a punctured, but otherwise perfectly fine, tubeless tire for the riding lawn mower. I start mowing, then the throttle linkage snaps. after letting the superglue cure 30 minutes later, I finish the back yard.

Took some measurements on the 944... Trying to figure out dimensions for the new engine uprights, exhaust routing, etc...

Swapped the battery out on the beater Civic. The whole electrical system died in traffic on me a while back, so I was worried the alternator was shot, but with a new battery I was able to start it, disconnect the battery, and it didn't die so I think the alternator is okay, whew

^easier way to check it is see if the voltage across the battery jumps to about 14 V when the engine is running

^ Hrmm, didn't know that, interesting...I'd always figured the whole system would be relatively close to 12V, although I guess it would likely alter somewhat between battery and altenator no matter what

He's right. Close to the battery you should get 12v when the car is turned off, but it'll jump to around 13.8 when the engine is cranked if the alternator is working. My boat has a volt meter on the dash. I had to charge the batteries (it has two) a few times last summer and I noticed that even when it was running the volt meter was hovering around 12v. After I had the alternator rebuilt it would jump to around 14v when the engine was running.

Most parts stores have stopped clearing codes, supposedly for liability reasons. People are dumb and think that if the light is gone, then the problem is fixed. If you just ask to borrow the code reader, and do it yourself, it usually isn't a problem.

The bumper mounted turn signals in the European market cars function as side markers when the the parking lights and/or the headlights are on. In addition, they also function as turn signals (blinking with the headlight mounted turn signal when headlight/parking lights are off, and reverse of them when the lights are on). On the U.S. market cars, they're only side markers, and never function as turn signals. This is a shame because they're visible beside the car, through the opening in the fender liner. I thought this was such an elegant solution when I first saw the 996, and this design has been carried to the Boxster, 996/997, Cayman, Panamera and even the Cayenne. When I realized that this function was deactivated for the U.S. market, I had to change it back. Finally I got around to it today! It took a while, but I'm pretty anal when it comes to wiring, and everything has to look factory, go through the proper grommets, be weather proofed, etc.
