Anyone know of a powerlifting style gym in the RTP/Chapel Hill area? I was working out at Gold's in Pleasant Valley when I lived in Raleigh but now that I live in Chapel Hill I go to the Gold's in RTP on the way home from work and that gym is pretty damn awful. I don't care about all the fancy garbage that most chain style gyms have to offer, I just want a bunch of power racks and some deadlifting platforms.
Thanks for the help. 9/24/2009 8:52:26 PM |

^^ that sounds like my kind of place....any idea where it is? Google isn't being very helpful
^ It was real nice, lots of good equipment and it was kept in good shape. I wish I lived closer still. 9/24/2009 9:55:48 PM |

they changed their name apparently, its right in RTP.
RTP fitness center 4310 S Miami Blvd, Durham, NC? - (919) 361-3539?
the place is a dump, but an awesome Rocky 3 type dump. mostly lifters there, not much cardio stuff or "soccer mom" type equipment. no amenities and the price was cheap.

There is some place in Clayton that caters to it; don't remember the name. 9/25/2009 6:55:44 AM |

Do you have any advice if instead of a Rocky III style dungeon workout I'm looking for more of a Rocky IV style workout of lifting rocks and shoveling snow? 9/25/2009 6:41:17 PM |

i suggest you sign up for the Iron Mind catalog if you want a rocky IV style workout. kettelbells, rock straps, nails, those badass captains of crush grippers, pre-stressed no-roll squat bars guaranteed not to bend or slide and about a billion other apeshit awesome old style muscle head gear. as well as those pornstar expensive eleiko weight sets for when you want to lift kilograms instead of pounds when you're not busy getting your fucking Veyron worked on

anyone know of a gym in the downtown raleigh area or sas area of cary that does supercircuit classes (cardio for about a min -> 10s rest -> lifting for a min -> rest | rinse and repeat)? 9/25/2009 11:34:31 PM |

man i used to go to this place in denver (lake norman) called Iron Physique. Aside from a couple stationary bikes for warmup, there was nothing in that place that had moving parts. Except the blenders in the protein bar, those had moving parts. Free weights and static benches only, and my membership was 10 bucks a month. I loved that place.
Then I found five dollars.
