^^ That's why they have those commercials now that don't advertise the sandwich, but "how can you have a meal without chips and a drink?" 10/1/2009 3:35:33 PM |
lafta All American 14880 Posts user info edit post |
still add drink & chips, maybe your profit is $2-$3
if you average 10 customers per 30 minutes, 20/hr, 160/day 160*$3 = $480
minus worker salaries ~8/hr, 64/day * 2 = $128
grand total profit = $352/day, $1408/month
that doesnt include rent, utilities, i think they lose money 10/1/2009 3:47:37 PM |

^^bread $.10, meat $0.50, cheese $0.10, toppings $.25 = ~ $2
ok so they make $3, lets even say $4 plush $1 for chips/drink so $5
so profit would be $800/day, ~$2800 per month
still too low, rent is more likely $1500 or more, other expenses are at least $500 franchise fee, etc, no good 10/1/2009 4:11:24 PM |
Grandmaster All American 10829 Posts user info edit post |
Yeah definitely not anywhere near the profit margin Redbox has.
You have to be trolling if you believe it costs a franchise owner .10c for every piece of cheese.

I would venture to say that the average Subway sells more that 160 meals per day. You're not taking into account call-in orders or group orders. A lot of times my office will have one person call in an order for 15 and have one person pick up all the orders. Thus, it looks like they only have one customer when, in fact, they have 15.
And for a group of 15 people, 5 may order the $5 footlong, but the other 10 may spend more money on different menu items. 10/1/2009 4:15:22 PM |

I'm fairly certain they make more than 20 subs an hour, especially during lunch rush.
and they make way more than $800 a day in profits, or else you wouldn't see so fucking many of them

lol@ subs costing subway 4 bucks but I too, don't understand how similar restaurants (in non university/crowded area strip malls) make money.
Take jumpin johnnys in brier creek for example. Theres never more than 2 or 3 customers in there at any given time. Thats about 25 customers per day. each paying around 9 bucks. Thats about 220 of revenue. You have at least two workers at all time making 7.50 an hour. thats 150 in wages per day. thats 70 dollars profit per day or 2100 a month. rent in brier creek has gotta be more than 2100 and overhead at least 500. I guess this is why restaurants have the lowest sucess rate of any business. They go out of business so much. 10/1/2009 4:53:16 PM |

It is the least expensive franchise to get into, that's for sure. But at the same time, there is no exclusivity. Hence, there is a strip mall in Greensboro that has a Subway on each end, with 2 different owners. 10/1/2009 4:53:54 PM |

I worked at the Subway in Lilling-bumfuck-ton and we easily pulled in around 2-3 grand on a typical day. You would be amazed how many subs are made during the 2 hour lunch rush and dinner rush. 10/1/2009 5:06:01 PM |

oops my bad, i missed a few days of the month by my calculations at best a subway will make roughly $24,000
minus rent and other stuff ~ 18,000
thats still using a very unrealistic statistics 10/1/2009 7:26:54 PM |

My wife's mother is part of a Subway franchise in her town. I looked through one of their operational plan books and they pretty much make $2-4 per sub at prices between $5-6. They actually make the most on the veggie sub (not surprising). The margins are 50-80% on almost everything.8/25/2010 10:47:18 AM |

I get what you're saying and it may be just me, but it seems like their bread took a nose dive in quality (several years ago now) and they've never been the same ever since.
Maybe it was just my taste buds that changed.8/25/2010 10:55:24 AM |
