before my uncle died he put about 200 gallons of fuel into the old tank on the farm. as far as I know the tank is as waterproof as it was when it was built. hand cranked pump mech.
it was about 5 years ago. I've been lead to believe that diesel keeps quite a bit longer than gasoline, but I need to know how much longer. is it still good? it doesn't have that "sweet" smell that spoiled gas has, but then again i dont know what to look for. I'd burn it, but the only motor i have that burns it is the family tractor, and I dont want to go fucking that up "just for kicks"

I would run it, but with an additive

I would run it. Add some algaecide and make sure your pump has a water separating filter on it. 10/2/2009 1:28:50 PM |

Yessir. It does. We use algacide in our sailboat's diesel tank. 10/2/2009 2:17:32 PM |

does it actually grow in the fuel itself or in any accumulated moisture/water in the tank 10/2/2009 2:22:44 PM |

i think it will grow in the diesel itself. we bought a used tractor that had been sitting up, it ran well then died. the strainer on the end of the pickup tube was clogged with a black algae, carb cleaner wouldn't clean it off but dawn dish detergent handled it nicely. I have bought the algaecide at carquest. 10/2/2009 6:20:23 PM |
