^^depending on the type of owner, they're different enough I think. If the "premium" Toyota version had been sold in the US instead of the Scion version I would be more inclined to agree.

agreed.

partly because of it actually being fuglier.
partly because of the Scion badge, and everything that the Scion badge implies.

BRZ STI "announced"

http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1086005_2014-subaru-brz-sti-teased

Apparently it's looking like there still will not be FI involved. I don't understand. Throw a turbo in and they would absolutely dominate that market segment. From everything I've read the FA20 is a capable setup as well.

^have you just checked out from the automotive scene recently? Recently you've acted like the least informed Garage regular

^^That's a JDM only model, and is nothing but a bunch of overpriced BS. Who the fuck deemed it necessary to put 6 pot fixed caliper Brembos on a 200 hp sports car?

Quote :

I totally agree with this comment of yours. But if you go over to ft86club.com you'll see plenty of fanbois that say it has "enough" power, that FI would ruin the spirit of the car, and that if you think it needs FI you just "don't get this car". Regardless to say I go on a lot of rants over there

Rumors persist of a forced induction engine being developed (or adapted) for the BRZ.

As to the FA20 engine's durability, its starting to become apparent that the factory ECU tune is not well suited to track duty and a lot of people are starting to have their direct injection seals fail after extended high rpm track duty (from just multiple HPDE's). The solution is actually easy, a reflashed ECU. And since all aftermarket FI FA20's have a reflashed ECU they're actually not suffering from this issue, lol

^ Damn. I read about the supposed release yesterday morning when everyone was proclaiming a real STI version. Seems 12 hours later everyone is reneging and disclosing the tS or w/e.

I didn't actually read the article I posted. I just grabbed the first google news link a planted it in the post.

One of the most prevalent posters over at FT86club.com had his stock catalytic convertors (2) fail in his BRZ. And while the dealership is on his side SOA is refusing to cover their replacement

Nice, a car you have to beat the breaks off of to get anything out of it and it can't handle it.

what does SOA base their rejection of the claim on? Is his car modded or stock? Does that matter?

^yeah probably

^^^drivetrain is stock as far as I know. He works for a tuner shop and has put about 1k track miles on his BRZ (note: not race miles). Oh, and did I mention he's on his third engine?

The EPA requires manufacturers to cover catalytic convertors for 8 years, 80k miles. They're looking into legal action.

Manufactures should build engines strong enough to go past redline. It should be a safety feature not an indicator of blow up point.

Kinda like the "low oil pressure" light coming on right as your bearings are destroying themselves or just before the engine seizes up.

At least of this guy's engine failures is attributed to the above mentioned TSB. The engine seized after DI seal (and subsequent injector) failure.

It was to tke-teg's comment. I mean, if you are tracking the thing and it blows the engine twice, on a non-modified vehicle new to the market. Then there's a problem somewhere. I mean, we don't know how hard he's pushing it on the track, however, if it's within reasonable maintenance, use, and care, then I don't see why it should fail so prematurely.

well the unfortunate thing is it is not his personal car. It is his tuner shop's car I believe.

The guy in question who drives it all the time has a GPW S2000 CR as his personal vehicle

Instructed an FRS driver at an AutoX in Atlanta over the weekend and got to take him for a run in it to show him a few things. I had test driven the car before but hadn't had a chance to really push one...still only 8/10th's or so since it wasn't my car, but more than I could do on the street in a test drive.

The power of the car was just like the test drive...lacking, but I think only because I'm used to my M3's grunt nowadays. It's not that 200hp is too low, it's that the way its delivered in the FRS just isn't that fun, or something to that effect. I think a tuned one could be a blast.

However, as far as handling goes, man what a car! I loved the steering when driving the car hard, and had a blast in the slaloms. I had a lot of trouble with the tail coming out in hairpins, but the car reacted predictably when it did, and it was on the factory tires so I attribute the lack of grip to them.

It's still a little tight for me with a helmet on though, when I turn my head to the left to look ahead the helmet bangs off the roof where it curves down towards the windows.

I mean... Cool idea but heavy engine with much higher center of gravity means it's gotta be a drag car.

I wouldn't mind a flat 6 tho.

Agreed. I'm not sure if a flat 6 would fit though. Obviously the best engine swap for this car is an LSX, lol.

EZ30D is only .75" longer than the EJ257. same width.

not sure about the engine in the 86 right now, but probably near the same dimensions

So, I drove one..

A SUBLIME chassis, one of the most balanced I've ever driven, shock damping is spot on, just amazing. Steering feel actually kind of sucks but it's weighted beautifully.

Biggest surprise was how stable it was at speed, not really susceptible to crosswinds.

Riding a turtle might be faster, pretty sure the trash pick up is.
