Just going to be used for working from home, email, etc.

Nothing too crazy. Being lightweight is a plus. I was looking at the Inspiron 11z, 13, 14, and 15. Any of those stand out?

I'm clueless when it comes to this stuff.

I get a discount on Dells, but it if not a Dell, what other laptop should I be looking at?

Any help is much appreciated.

Yea, I've been impressed with the ASUS purchased before I arrived on the scene here at work. It's actually been pretty solid so far. Fairly stylish, lots of great features. Not impressed with the keyboard, but it's not the end of the world.

Concur with ASUS. They have enough variety that you should be able to find something that meets your budget and work needs. Hell, get a larger-sized netbook.

Helpful responses thus far. I recently got my dad a Vostro 1520 with 3GB RAM, WinXP Pro for under $600. Worked out well so far for him. Only downside is no docking station available for this model.

Be SURE to order through Dell Small Business. Do NOT under ANY circumstances order through Dell Home. Dell Small Business does not screw around with you if something happens (1 of the 2 memory chips went bad, still in warranty, instant replacement, no questions asked).

Open chat session, anticipate all of their scripted troubleshooting methods and tell them that you've done it. Request the replacement part -- wake up the next morning with a FedEx box on your desk.

I'm actually thinking about this as well, and wanted to check out the Asus site, but there are a ton of options on there.
