Quote :
"Norma and Arthur Lewis, a suburban couple with a young child, receive a simple wooden box as a gift, which bears fatal and irrevocable consequences. A mysterious stranger, delivers the message that the box promises to bestow upon its owner $1 million with the press of a button. But, pressing this button will simultaneously cause the death of another human being somewhere in the world; someone they don't know. With just 24 hours to have the box in their possession, Norma and Arthur find themselves in the cross-hairs of a startling moral dilemma and must face the true nature of their humanity"

so this looks interesting to me, unfortunately they decided to pick one of the worst actresses in the world to star in it.

frank langella alone would sell this as a great freaky movie if it wasnt for diaz

anyone else gonna give it a shot?

here is the trailer

http://www.trailerspy.com/trailer/4480/The-Box-Trailer-HD

looks pretty fucking weird (but what do you expect from the guy that made donnie darko), but it could be alright. i wouldn't pay to see it in the theater, but i'd like to check it out.

I like the concept, and I liked Donnie Darko, but I don't expect this to be any good.

Also, it sort of bugs me that they dropped the classic "button in a box" moral dilemma to just $1mil vs someone you don't know. It would be far more interesting to me if they used what it's supposed to be (or even some similar variation of it), I'd be far more interested:
You're given a button to push, as is some other person somewhere else (could be a sibling or friend, to make it a tougher choice), and the two of you have no way of contacting each other. If one of you pushes it, the other dies and the pusher goes free. If both of you push it, you both die. If neither of you push it, you both live.

The movie premise just seems too... easy. On multiple levels. Besides that, the trailer wasn't particularly good, plus what ^ said.

^i don't get it, what's the incentive to pushing the button, just to say you pushed it?

This is dumb.

Why would you push it?

^yea, I thought that was similar to prisoner's dilemma at first, but you really have no incentive to push the button. maybe he's thinking of something like the scenario from a dark knight... I dunno

I saw this trailer a while ago and thought the premise sounded familiar. I then remembered this Twilight Zone episode that it was inspired by: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Button,_Button_%28The_Twilight_Zone%29. This is from the second run of The Twilight Zone.

My girlfriend and I saw it at The Colony whenever they were showing it. Only 3-4 other people were in the theatre and this old man walked out halfway through. I enjoy watching bad movies but this was off the charts. I've never seen actors this confused on how to act before. They were all over the place.

$1 million seems like kind of a low number

even brewsters millions in the 70s/80s was like 300 million

I would think it would only be a seriously moral dilemma if they had money problems...

did they have money problems?

did they have money problems in indecent proposal, i don't remember... (of course I'm going to google before you answer... but answer anyways... why not...)

....

I look at the twilight zone episode summary

the ending is pretty fucking smooth

did the movie have the same kind of ending?

a) Cif82 has apparently seen it

b) the "financially strapped" part is not in this thread but involves clicking through... which I did do, but after posting the general question

my questions still holds though

does it have a similar ending to the twilight zone episode...

and if there is worries about ruining it... I'm not going to see this movie... the buzz is already generally negative

pretty sure he was referring to "southland tales"

you really think Colony gets a major studio movie almost a month before its major release?

I thought it was better then Donnie Darko.

Was this ever released in non-select theaters?

HORRIBLE

Just plain horrible.

And I had a hard time turning it off because I wanted to know where all the randomness was leading. So I sat there for 1hr50mins just praying for it to end.
